Announcing the Top Rated Application Performance Management Software for 2019

August 28th, 2019 7 min read

We are excited to announce the Top Rated Application Performance Management (APM) Software for 2019! Top Rated awards showcase today’s top-of-the-line products in APM Software based solely on positive user feedback and satisfaction scores. These awards make the voice of the market the primary decider into the industry’s best products.

Top Rated awards are the most trusted in the industry because they are never influenced by analyst opinion, the vendor’s size, popularity, or status as a TrustRadius customer.

Here are the winners:

Dynatrace

Dynatrace TRScore | trustradius.com

Dynatrace is a cloud-based, full-stack APM platform. It uses a deterministic AI engine at its core to interpret data and perform fault-tree analysis. The platform automatically discovers and monitors microservices, traces performance at the code level, and tracks CI and CD builds. User experience tools analyze user data and emulate user behavior to find and resolve pain points. Dynatrace’s auto-remediation system can optimize performance and fix issues before they become noticeable to users. A large majority (74%) of Dynatrace users on TrustRadius are from enterprise-level organizations. Reviewers praise Dynatrace for its powerful root-cause analysis capability, strong visualization tools, and shareable dashboards.

“Dynatrace enables us to stay ahead of our students and know about impending problems before they become student facing…Also, their dashboarding capabilities are amazing! I can now customize different dashboards for different audiences and share them from the client directly.”

New Relic

New Relic TRScore | trustradius.com

New Relic provides web and mobile APM for apps deployed on-premise, in the cloud, or in hybrid environments. The platform supports applications written in seven popular languages, including Ruby, Python, PHP, and .NET. Its root-cause analysis tools show exact method calls and line numbers to help pinpoint problems. Benchmarking tools compare each deployment of an application against previous versions, helping developers gauge performance fixes and find where problems were introduced. An open API gives its community the tools to build custom monitoring plugins. A little over a third (39%) of New Relic users on TrustRadius are from midsize companies. New Relic’s flexibility through its API, error analysis capability, and granular data visibility make it popular with reviewers.

“New Relic does a great job of showing us how quickly our site is loading and what processes are slowing it down. It breaks site speed into several categories, such as querying, back-end code, caching, etc., which allows us to more easily improve site speed.”

What is APM Software?

Modern organizations rely on many software applications for day-to-day business needs. The performance and availability of this software is often mission-critical. APM software helps keep businesses running smoothly by monitoring important software and alerting IT staff to any problems.

APM software typically has the ability to send alerts when performance metrics for applications, servers, databases, and virtual hardware reach a certain threshold. Some products are capable of locating potential problems before they occur. In some cases, the software can attempt to automatically fix the potential issue. These products also may include auto-discovery features to locate and monitor new applications without manual configuration. As users have come to expect a faster, more seamless experience, some APM tools have added features to help measure and optimize UX.

When considering APM software, it’s important to remember that the software itself isn’t a solution to performance problems. Although some products include automation features, it’s still critical to have an experienced team at the helm to validate automatic solutions and implement complex improvements. It’s also important to ensure that your chosen product will cover the full stack of mission-critical applications, whether they’re on-premise, virtualized, or in the cloud.

Top Rated Criteria

Products included in the 2019 Top Rated APM Software list must have been in the top tier of their category TrustMap as of August 1st, 2019. To qualify for the APM Software Top Rated Award, products must have at least 10 reviews written within the past year, a TRScore of at least 7.5 out of 10, and must receive at least 1.5% of the traffic in their category.  Every reviewer is verified and every review is vetted before publication. Products are plotted on the TrustMap based on end-user data, including users’ likelihood to recommend scores as well as buyer research patterns.
