Pain points for Data Center Backup buyers

Our research revealed that while buyers are generally happy with their Data Center Backup solution, some would not make the same buying decisions today. 94% of Data Center Backup users are happy with their current solution, but 1 in 5 would not make the same purchase today

There are three crucial trends in the Data Center Backup space that influence this:

  1. The emergence of Converged Secondary Storage, which pushes IT professionals to think beyond backup
  2. Copy data management, as some estimates suggest that over half of data stored by enterprises is copy data
  3. The rise of both cloud storage and hybrid storage

Of these three, many IT professionals highlight cloud storage as the reason they are considering replacing their backup solution. Our survey indicated that 46% back up data to the cloud today. Another 31% say they are planning on doing so soon. Here are some of their comments:

“Five years ago, when we purchased this, it was one of the better options out there. Since that time our back up needs have changed, and also there have been more players in the market, especially in regard to cloud.”

“We might need to reevaluate TSM licenses as we are moving to cloud and there is a pressure to cut down cost and use cloud based backup/restore (snapshot) going forward.”

“I feel there are better solutions out there. We bought it when we have physical servers, now we are virtual.”
