Qualtrics-vs-SurveyGizmo

October 2nd, 2020 4 min read

Qualtrics and SurveyGizmo are tools used for creating and distributing surveys, and collecting and analyzing responses. They’re both designed to make the survey creation process easy and fast, with multiple options to customize question types. SurveyGizmo is a scalable solution that can meet the needs of different types of organizations, while Qualtrics is designed for use within larger organizations.

On TrustRadius, usage of SurveyGizmo is evenly distributed among small, medium, and large businesses. A majority of Qualtrics users on TrustRadius are from enterprise-level organizations.

Features

Although both Qualtrics and SurveyGizmo can be used to create and distribute surveys, they’re each different enough to not be interchangeable.

Qualtrics is designed first and foremost for advanced, enterprise-level usage. Qualtrics is also popular among academic users and higher education institutions. It has a wide variety of options for collecting survey data, running analytics on that data, and generating reports. The software integrates with third-party tools like Jira, Slack, and Salesforce, allowing it to automatically generate service requests, send messages, and update customer data based on survey results. However, Qualtrics doesn’t sacrifice usability, with most users reporting that the software is intuitive and easy to use.

SurveyGizmo is designed to be fast. It comes with plenty of templates that make it quick for users to create many different kinds of surveys. Users report that it has a wide variety of question types and is flexible enough to meet many different needs, including test and quiz administration. SurveyGizmo offers options for anonymized surveys for situations where confidentiality is important. And the software’s pricing structure has options for multiple different user types, with a low barrier to entry for individuals and small teams.

Limitations

Each platform has its drawbacks, as well. It’s important to consider whether Qualtrics or SurveyGizmo will meet your needs before choosing one or the other.

Qualtrics isn’t necessarily overpriced, but it’s far more expensive than SurveyGizmo, with customers reporting a price point aimed at mid-sized to large organizations. Some customers feel like they end up paying for features they don’t need or use. The vendor has recently added a free option, though features on the free tier are heavily limited when compared to paid tiers. Qualtrics offers advanced logic features for surveys, but the UI for setting up this logic can be confusing for some users. The platform also allows users to design mobile-friendly surveys, but some have found that their design didn’t necessarily match the final result on mobile devices.

SurveyGizmo is primarily limited to creating simple surveys without complex logic. It offers some options for advanced logic, but these surveys can be difficult to design and visualize. Its logic options aren’t as robust as those offered by Qualtrics. The platform also doesn’t include an API or real-time data export option to data analysis tools, requiring users to manually export and import data into tools like SharePoint and Microsoft PowerBI. Some users wished for the ability to send follow-up surveys to specific users or groups, or the capability to otherwise logically link different surveys together. Data analysis and reporting capabilities are also limited.

Pricing

Pricing for Qualtrics is available via a quote from the vendor, although they offer a free tier limited to a single active survey with up to 100 respondents.

SurveyGizmo uses a tiered, per-month subscription model with discounts for annual billing. All prices listed below are for an annual subscription. The free tier allows up to 3 active surveys with unlimited questions and 100 responses per survey. The Collaborator tier is $25/month and allows unlimited basic surveys and responses. The Professional tier is $85/month and includes additional question types, advanced reporting, and more logic options. The Full Access tier is $150/month and adds extra features like heatmaps, text analysis, and customizable scripting. Enterprise packages, with a dedicated account manager and migration services, are available via a quote from SurveyGizmo’s sales team.
