250ok Inbox

250ok is a great tool for companies that have recently switched ESPs to monitor inbox placement or for companies that historically have been having email deliverability issues and would like to learn about the root cause and improve. Unlike ReturnPath, 250ok doesn't offer certification, but honestly, you don't need certification if you follow the Gmail/Microsoft/AOL/Yahoo bulk sender guidelines. I haven't seen a company which significantly improved their results with that certification and I've been working for one major ESP for 7 years. 250ok is a good diagnostic/monitoring tool but it is not a panacea for those who continue to violate sender guidelines due to poor list/content management.

Pinpointe On-Demand

Pinpointe is perfect for managing large numbers of contacts, including gathering new contacts and storing them throughout your databases, which can further be broken into lists and then individual tags for sorting and sending.Where it really excels is in the email marketing sector. We are able to send as many as several hundred thousand emails per hour, making sure all of our customers get time sensitive marketing material quickly.

Pros

  • Use of recipients' engagement data to display campaign performance instead of panel data.
  • Easy to use interface.
  • Access to spam trap network and granular reports in real time.
  • Blacklist monitoring in real time.
  • Multi-point compliance checks.

  • Clean, easy to use UI (little outdated, but they are rolling out a new look slowly)
  • Lots of statistics gathering and reporting, from email opens to link tracking to page visits. Very impressive statistical reporting per email and across an entire account
  • Support is quick, usually responding in < 1 hour. When a problem really turns out to be a bug, they've put me in direct contact with development to fix it or find a temporary workaround
  • Deliverability of emails are better than other systems I've tested (the emails get sent and arrive when I plan, and look just like I designed them in the system)
  • Lots of email tools - split testing, inbox previewing, spam checker
  • Offers an Enterprise edition (several clients of mine specifically needed this)

Cons

  • Documentation website could use some improvement (i.e. Search on the API Guide page, videos in the User Guide).
  • Can't copy/paste certain things from the UI (i.e. IP ranges).
  • Doesn't integrate directly with some ESPs although it's easy to just use new seed lists.

  • There's no real customer service chat at the moment, but you do have an account rep and they do email you back quickly and are very helpful.

They are quick to respond to requests, usually within an hour. If they don't have an immediate fix to a problem, they let me know what the status is and what they are doing about a request. In some cases, if the development team needs to be involved because a bug is found, they have fixed and patched the system same day. Rarely do I ever get that kind of customer support response with any other company.They don't have a premium support tier because they treat every request with the same level of professionalism and response time (again, to at least let you know it was received and an actual person is looking at it, even if they are busy with other requests).

Alternatives Considered

We use both 250ok and ReturnPath in the company (because we're an ESP) and both have their own pros and cons. Return Path uses panel data while 250ok uses recipients' engagement date for reporting. Both ways have pros and cons but you can't say one is better than the other. They're just different. ReturnPath also offers certification which (I have to be honest) is not as relevant anymore as there is only one way to fix deliverability issues nowadays - by following bulk sender guidelines posted by Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Microsoft, and other ISPs. ReturnPath has a better documentation website while 250ok could use some refinement. With 250ok you can choose the tools you need and build your own package and save money. With ReturnPath - not so much. 250ok also has partners across the globe while ReturnPath mostly promotes its own services and consultants.

We like the price better than Constant Contact and the deliverability is better than with MailChimp.
