250ok Inbox

250ok is a great tool for companies that have recently switched ESPs to monitor inbox placement or for companies that historically have been having email deliverability issues and would like to learn about the root cause and improve. Unlike ReturnPath, 250ok doesn't offer certification, but honestly, you don't need certification if you follow the Gmail/Microsoft/AOL/Yahoo bulk sender guidelines. I haven't seen a company which significantly improved their results with that certification and I've been working for one major ESP for 7 years. 250ok is a good diagnostic/monitoring tool but it is not a panacea for those who continue to violate sender guidelines due to poor list/content management.

Twilio SendGrid Email Marketing

SendGrid, in our world, has been best suited for delivering emails to our candidates at a fairly quick rate. This along with providing us insights as to the performance has been very helpful. On the B2B side, we have not found it to be as appropriate mainly because we tend to want to hit those people in a different way and the stats around those are different.

Cons

  • Documentation website could use some improvement (i.e. Search on the API Guide page, videos in the User Guide).
  • Can't copy/paste certain things from the UI (i.e. IP ranges).
  • Doesn't integrate directly with some ESPs although it's easy to just use new seed lists.

  • Navigation to the Billing/Account section is a bit difficult
  • Fewer emails for the send/receive data
  • Fewer marketing emails

It has the potential to be really cool. However, it feels as if it was created by developers for developers (and I work with developers, yet even for me the instrument was somewhat not easy to use - just read SendGrid's help manuals...) However, if you are into data and your way of thinking is more mathematical rather than lyrical, you'll enjoy this instrument

I've reached out to SendGrid support few times. Each time my issue was able to be resolved by the first rep that responded and was solved within 24 hours (if not 1 hour).

Alternatives Considered

We use both 250ok and ReturnPath in the company (because we're an ESP) and both have their own pros and cons. Return Path uses panel data while 250ok uses recipients' engagement date for reporting. Both ways have pros and cons but you can't say one is better than the other. They're just different. ReturnPath also offers certification which (I have to be honest) is not as relevant anymore as there is only one way to fix deliverability issues nowadays - by following bulk sender guidelines posted by Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Microsoft, and other ISPs. ReturnPath has a better documentation website while 250ok could use some refinement. With 250ok you can choose the tools you need and build your own package and save money. With ReturnPath - not so much. 250ok also has partners across the globe while ReturnPath mostly promotes its own services and consultants.

I like SendGrid best for my most important transsactional emails because I feel they have the highest chance of getting through.I also use Amazon SES, but only use them for less important transactional emails. SES is cheaper, but their reputation isn't as good with ISPs so more of their emails get blocked than SendGrids I've notice (espeically on a shared IP) and also with a custom IP address. I have custom IP addresses on both SendGrid and SES and can say easily that more emails get delivered with SendGrid. Also, SendGrid lets you have a custom rDNS, where as Amazon does not, so that is a bonus. Support on SenGrid is amazing. Amazon's support is very limited and you can't get ahold of anyone unless you pay extra for support. Also, often times you won't hear back from anyone via the forum so that is disappointing. SendGrid is better over all experience, but more expensive per email send than SES.

Return on Investment

  • Easy real-time inbox placement and deliverability monitoring for IPs and domains.
  • Proactive problem resolution to avoid potential issues.
  • Great addition to other deliverability tools to get the full picture on performance.
  • Easy to partner with and to get trained.

  • When more emails get delivered, transactions get completed with our business. When emails don't get through, orders do not get completed and there is a breakdown in communication which causes problems for all parties involved.
