2Checkout

2Checkout is great when you sell software licenses online or when you offer SaaS subscriptions. I don't think it can work in other scenarios.

Coinbase

I think Coinbase is a great place to start for people that are just getting acquainted with the cryptocurrency space. The interface works as much like a traditional bank as you could expect, considering Coinbase is not a bank, so it's very easy for users to get a handle on what is going on.Storing money long-term in Coinbase is not particularly advisable, as the nature of cryptocurrency is that you are to trust no one with your secure keys. By using Coinbase, you are inherently breaking that idea, and trusting Coinbase to keep your funds secure for you.

Pros

  • 2Checkout handles credit cards that I would not be able to accept from my country.
  • Fraud prevention works. They saved me a couple of times and I appreciate that.
  • I always received my payments on time. I never had to complain.
  • Very simple dashboard for monitoring your coins
  • Makes buying and selling Cryptocurrencies very simple once your account is set up
  • Has a price alert feature for monitoring prices when they go above or below your target prices

Cons

  • I get my payments via a Payoneer credit card. Sometimes I would prefer to receive a wire transfer instead but it is not so easy to switch payment methods.
  • Payment checking and purchase confirmation take about 10 minutes. It is not too much but for clients, it seems an eternity.
  • Same complaint I have about any other coinbase competitor. Setting up an account takes too long (a few days). But it's understandable as it has to be a very high level of security
  • Higher transaction fees than other platforms for purchasing the same product. But because of Coinbase's simplicity relative to other platforms they are able to charge a bit of a premium here. You just need to know what you're getting into. If you're doing high volume, it's worth learning a GDAX or other platform. If you're buying and holding and don't have the time to research the lowest fees then Coinbase is great.
  • They're limited in the payment methods they accept. Not a huge deal, but they don't accept paypal.

Alternatives Considered

I used to sell my software on Avangate and PayPal at the same time. Costs were very similar but I decided to abandon PayPal because it sometimes required human interventions. I also checked DigitalRiver, but it wasn't easy to setup and I never completed all requirements.
Coinbase definitely provides the most impressive user experience of all the crypto-currency exchanges.Coinbase is one of only a few that US uses to buy crypto with fiat (USD) currency, making it on the short list of feasible platforms to use. However, Coinbase does lack options for utilizing non-mainstream (alt) crypto-currencies. I selected Coinbase because they are the most robust, complete feeling, user experience. Their security practices are top-notch, and they have insurance policies to cover their customers in the event of a compromise.

Return on Investment

  • 2Checkout charges you for every sale. It does not have other costs that can affect your finances.
  • 2Checkout has two plans for software companies. Make sure to select the one that is right for you or you will find yourself paying a high commission.
