2Checkout is great when you sell software licenses online or when you offer SaaS subscriptions. I don't think it can work in other scenarios.

For our business, the functions to allow line item pricing, and line item discount are a must have. This is one of the strengths of SteelBrick CPQ. It is also important to know that if your business has a high number of business rules or exception rules on pricing, it may be necessary for some moderate customization in the product

Pros

  • 2Checkout handles credit cards that I would not be able to accept from my country.
  • Fraud prevention works. They saved me a couple of times and I appreciate that.
  • I always received my payments on time. I never had to complain.

  • Easy to use interface. Very shallow learning curve, so it's not a massive headache switching from previous tools.
  • Ability to adjust different line items on quotes as needed.
  • The ability to house multiple quotes that can be updated on the fly and integrate well with our pricing packages.

Cons

  • I get my payments via a Payoneer credit card. Sometimes I would prefer to receive a wire transfer instead but it is not so easy to switch payment methods.
  • Payment checking and purchase confirmation take about 10 minutes. It is not too much but for clients, it seems an eternity.

  • Quote slow to load at times
  • Order form generation can get a bit tricky with multi-year agreements with annual increases in subscription, ramped subscribers, exceptions to standard contract terms
  • Once quote is approved, the steps required to export the document to pdf outside of SFDC is not entirely straightforward

The company is very easy to work with and is growing by leaps and bounds. We do not anticipate switching vendors anytime in the near future

I wish they would get on the phone with me and actually provide me in-depth support at a minimum since I haven't had training and nobody provided me with insight that our instance of CPQ was two years old until I was proactive and asked about the issues we were having. They should provide service/product version update information proactively to their customers.

Alternatives Considered

I used to sell my software on Avangate and PayPal at the same time. Costs were very similar but I decided to abandon PayPal because it sometimes required human interventions. I also checked DigitalRiver, but it wasn't easy to setup and I never completed all requirements.

CPQ is much more intuitive and user-friendly than JDE. JDE is clunky and was not native to the Oracle CRM tool, which created problems when it came to quote creation and consistency in how deals are moved through the pipeline. We chose CPQ because we were already using SFDC as our CRM tool.

Return on Investment

  • Conversion rate has grown up since we started using Avangate Digital Commerce
  • Refund rate has descreased also

  • Positive impacts include the time it takes to adjust quotes - that is if the sales team is trained to know how to do this. It takes under 5 minutes to edit quotes.
  • Negative impacts include the fact that once a quote is approved in our approval process, edits cannot be made unless certain fields are reversed, which is a huge pain. A lot of the edits that sales requests to make after a quote has been approved can be attributed to the lack of training and support access they have fromCPQ though.
