2Checkout is great when you sell software licenses online or when you offer SaaS subscriptions. I don't think it can work in other scenarios.

Salesforce CPQ

Salesforce CPQ is very well suited for straightforward product configuration. Creating bundles is very quick, easy and intuitive, much easier than Oracle Configurator. I would love to see more functionality around guided selling and the ability to create more complex rules without all the complexity. Even creating rules to have the quantity of a product contribute to the quantity of another product is ridiculously complicated.

Pros

  • 2Checkout handles credit cards that I would not be able to accept from my country.
  • Fraud prevention works. They saved me a couple of times and I appreciate that.
  • I always received my payments on time. I never had to complain.
  • native workflow w/in salesforce.com opportunities - that is a pretty essential characteristic.
  • automating the quote, contracting and renewal process
  • enabling reps to produce complex price quotes that can span multiple product lines and (to an extent) simplify orders

Cons

  • I get my payments via a Payoneer credit card. Sometimes I would prefer to receive a wire transfer instead but it is not so easy to switch payment methods.
  • Payment checking and purchase confirmation take about 10 minutes. It is not too much but for clients, it seems an eternity.
  • Customer service is lacking, especially compared to Salesforce.
  • Slow load times.
  • Does a poor job of highlighting when a field is incorrect or missing.

The company is very easy to work with and is growing by leaps and bounds. We do not anticipate switching vendors anytime in the near future

I wish they would get on the phone with me and actually provide me in-depth support at a minimum since I haven't had training and nobody provided me with insight that our instance of CPQ was two years old until I was proactive and asked about the issues we were having. They should provide service/product version update information proactively to their customers.

Alternatives Considered

I used to sell my software on Avangate and PayPal at the same time. Costs were very similar but I decided to abandon PayPal because it sometimes required human interventions. I also checked DigitalRiver, but it wasn't easy to setup and I never completed all requirements.
We are a Salesforce organization and CPQ made the most sense when we first purchased it, not realizing how complex CPQ can be. When you first purchase CPQ, you are required to purchase training for your Salesforce administrator; however, I was a newly appointed admin after our previous admin left, and I was left alone to tackle CPQ. That was the same point in time that I had, by chance, submitted my second support ticket regarding CPQ issues, at which point my support rep at Salesforce CPQ informed me that our CPQ version was outdated. As a result, I'm currently testing the up-to-date version in the sandbox and seeing some improvements, but still a lot of complexities that are unnecessary for my organization's needs.

Return on Investment

  • 2Checkout charges you for every sale. It does not have other costs that can affect your finances.
  • 2Checkout has two plans for software companies. Make sure to select the one that is right for you or you will find yourself paying a high commission.
  • The ROI has been very positive from prospecting new clients, client retention, and up-selling/cross-selling current clients.
