Stripe

Stripe is well suited for an organization looking to easily and efficiently collect and track credit card payments. Stripe's user-friendly interface allows you to get the system running well without much hassle. Stripe is less appropriate for an organization that is collecting a wide range of subscription payments (more than 5)

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Customizable
  • Contains all basic reports and marketing tools
  • Stripe's user interface is very friendly. They make it easy to find past payments, look up customers, manage disputes, and check total sales and money transfers. The layout is clean, and it's easy to get new users up to speed quickly and effectively.
  • Stripe offers top-notch fraud protection. I've seen many cases where suspicious transactions come through and Stripe identified and stopped the problem. I trust Stripe with my company's information.
  • Stripe's fees are very reasonable. They only take a small transaction fee, which is competitive with other industry services.
  • Stripe's support team is responsive and helpful. They typically reply within a business day and are able to understand and solve problems efficiently.

Cons

  • I get my payments via a Payoneer credit card. Sometimes I would prefer to receive a wire transfer instead but it is not so easy to switch payment methods.
  • Payment checking and purchase confirmation take about 10 minutes. It is not too much but for clients, it seems an eternity.
  • Transaction fees are pretty high
  • Would be nice to have customisable email receipt
  • No other complaigns

Alternatives Considered

I used to sell my software on Avangate and PayPal at the same time. Costs were very similar but I decided to abandon PayPal because it sometimes required human interventions. I also checked DigitalRiver, but it wasn't easy to setup and I never completed all requirements.
Square Invoices is a great product with a lot of great features, but Stripe is more popular and more widely used. Also some of our IT professionals already had long experience working with Stripe and integrating it in e-commerce platforms, so we chose Stripe as it made more sense for us

Return on Investment

  • 2Checkout charges you for every sale. It does not have other costs that can affect your finances.
  • 2Checkout has two plans for software companies. Make sure to select the one that is right for you or you will find yourself paying a high commission.
  • By managing our e-commerce, Stripe makes it easy to have a subscription business, so it automates the whole thing.
  • ROI would be much higher with better analytics -- having to create reports and segment customers manually is a pain and definitely eats into the ROI of the product
  • I would also like to see more AI applied to the reporting and data for better insights
