EchoSpan 360-Degree Feedback Tool

As a 360 assessment it rates very well when compared to our previous vendor. 360-Degree Feedback is more affordable so it allows departments to avail themselves of the opportunity to help their team members learn more about themselves, which would have been cost-prohibitive with our previous vendor.The support department has been FANTASTIC! Quick responses on all any small issues and easy to work with for customizing templates. The system allows us to add rater groups and increase the group sizes easily.

Cornerstone OnDemand

When looking at Cornerstone OnDemand, look at the entire package, even if you don't plan on licensing everything. This will allow you see what is possible and how the company has built a cohesive product. Additionally, inquire about their road-map. They have several features that are already planned for this year that make it an even better product. Cornerstone is well suited for medium to larger businesses. I believe there are other products that would work for a smaller business that cost less. It becomes better as you license additional modules for the product.

Pros

  • EchoSpan was extremely supportive in the initial training portion and is extremely quick to offer support when required.
  • Filled our request for customization and were easy to work with.
  • Excellent on-line training videos

  • Cornerstone OnDemand is very robust and has a lot of room as the firm grows. This is a big plus if you are starting out and want to add features as you develop your training program.
  • Cornerstone OnDemand is a cloud-based, hosted system. This means updates are implemented in the background, no server administration, up-time is excellent, and everything is secure and backed up. In addition, Cornerstone provides two mirror sites where you can test updates and other concepts you would like to implement without affecting users.
  • Cornerstone OnDemand is a total HRD/HRM package with several different modules. For large organizations who have a lot of HR needs, Cornerstone offers all the support you need. The modules are designed to work seamlessly and share data according to the needs of the organization.
  • Cornerstone OnDemand has a very strong security system. Security parameters can be set on people and objects. This allows a lot of strength and flexibility.

  • It would be beneficial if the system automatically reported if an email was returned because of an incorrect address.

  • Cornerstone OnDemand is a bit difficult to navigate for new users and infrequent users. Most of the people who need to access our LMS do so only occasionally: once a month or so. There are a lot of clicks involved in getting to the training modules they want to consume.
  • Cornerstone OnDemand's reporting capabilities are fairly broad, but rather difficult to run. It takes a lot of effort to get the most necessary reports for our team. Some reports we need are not needed regularly, so creating reports on the fly is important. Cornerstone OnDemand could improve that portion.
  • Cornerstone OnDemand doesn't provide enough flexibility on graphic design. They do have templates, but the templates are not easy to implement and require an outside vendor to put in place. This is a cost we don't have room for, despite the desire to make the experience more interesting and comfortable for our users.

Overall this is a very easy to use system. I help manage a lot of content within the system and I do not have an IT or computer system background. Since using Cornerstone OnDemand they have implemented a lot of improvements including better versioning control (when a new revision for a material is available) and how to people train on the new revision. Going forward I would also like to see improvements in terms of emailing reports and dashboards to managers.

It’s surprisingly slow for a SAAS product. When you click on links, there’s no hourglass or waiting indicator, so it’s difficult to tell if the system is going to respond.

My issues have always been understood and resolved. I don't feel like I'm explaining it to someone who doesn't understand the system. Often times they know the issue and have quick fixes from their experiences.

Dig deep on what your current processes are and how they match up to Cornerstone OnDemand functionality. It's not that the Cornerstone OnDemand is bad, it just the amount of work it requires you to do to get your current data to fit into their system.

Alternatives Considered

Both EchoSpan and the other vendor supplied comparable products, so the major difference was the cost involved. EchoSpan is much more affordable and offers a very similar quality of report.

Our shortlist was: Litmus, Success Factors, Absorb, and Bloomfire. Our primary business need was learning management

a) Bloomfire – seemed more of a social networking, knowledge management tool, not really for learning management and so was eliminated.

b) Our initial choice was Success Factors, but we couldn’t come to terms on the contract. They weren’t willing to work with us on contract language for future purchases. Workday (who we use for HRIS) used Success Factors as their LMS at the time, but I understand it's since been decommissioned.

c) We didn’t know about Cornerstone at the time we selected Success Factors, but would have picked them otherwise. We learned about them after we had ruled out Success Factors. We ended up choosing Cornerstone as it had the best integration with Outlook and the highest capability to integrated with our HRIS (Workday) and to customize. You can change the display of the interface and put things where you want to go. It is highly customizable for branding and business

  • It has allowed feedback from many employees so certain issues that needed to be dealt with became more transparent.

  • Cornerstone has already helped us deliver training from two major projects to our user base. In order to remain in compliance and avoid SOX violations, we used Cornerstone to distribute mandatory training to our users as well. The reporting capability is powerful and easy to use and allowed us to easily track our users' progress.
  • Cornerstone is not cheap. However, the travel costs the training team will save from moving from instructor-led training to eLearning modules are projected to be huge.
  • Users are becoming more apt to take eLearning modules. The median age at my company is 47, so we have had some resistance to change from instructor-led training to eLearning. However, they now understand that they have resources available to them 24/7, which has been a huge win to them.
