EchoSpan 360-Degree Feedback Tool

I can't imagine a scenario where it is less appropriate than any other 360 tool. It's easy to use, customizable, and inexpensive. Reports are easy to interpret. Great tool for anyone looking to implement a new 360.

Cornerstone OnDemand

The tool is so flexible and powerful. We have recently trained 4 system administrators in one of our Call Centers to publish eLearning and assign this learning to their call center reps. They have to assign multiple courses every single day. I was able to create a role in the system, where these admins can create content and assign to just their division and it doesn't disrupt our overall corporate training initiatives, while supporting their needs fully.

Pros

  • EchoSpan was extremely supportive in the initial training portion and is extremely quick to offer support when required.
  • Filled our request for customization and were easy to work with.
  • Excellent on-line training videos
  • Single admin console with granular control over user access and reporting. They continue to keep the admin in mind when rolling out new features. Giving us additional tools and improvements to more easily manage a large organization of learners.
  • A complete solution. Cornerstone OnDemand is a human performance management solution. This includes: compensation, on-boarding, performance reviews, succession, training, and social interaction. All of the areas of the product are cohesively tied to one another for convenience and powerful cross-feature functionality. It has been developed organically from the ground up, so everything works together for a competent experience.
  • Increasing support for mobile learning. Our field is relying on mobile devices to stay connected. Cornerstone OnDemand continues to improve their support for mobile through web browser support and mobile apps.

Cons

  • It would be beneficial if the system automatically reported if an email was returned because of an incorrect address.
  • The administrator interface is not at all intuitive. It takes many hours to fully comprehend how to function as an admin.
  • The ingestion of users from your HRIS or Active Directory is difficult and time consuming. It took us 8 months to figure out the intricacies of how users are ingested into the system.
  • While most of the support team is nice and friendly, I've come across a few that were condescending and rude. Also, if you want immediate answers, you must call. It seems that their email help team takes a long time to respond.

Cornerstone OnDemand in general has very good usability. It is easy for end users to start using it. We don`t need to provide any trainings for learners or line managers. At maximum we can create one pager with general information. It is easy to search trainings. You don’t need to know the ID or full name of training.

It was down for a couple of hours in our first month. Occasionally, in the evening we have trouble logging in even though it is not a maintenance window.

It’s surprisingly slow for a SAAS product. When you click on links, there’s no hourglass or waiting indicator, so it’s difficult to tell if the system is going to respond.

They are doing a great job of creating new features and fixing anything that is broken. However, sometimes you have to wait until the next quarterly update to get something fixed. I also feel like their Global Product Support team could be better. Perhaps hiring additional people would help.

The interface not great. It would be nice to have a full video vs. slide by slide.

Dig deep on what your current processes are and how they match up to Cornerstone OnDemand functionality. It's not that the Cornerstone OnDemand is bad, it just the amount of work it requires you to do to get your current data to fit into their system.

Alternatives Considered

Both EchoSpan and the other vendor supplied comparable products, so the major difference was the cost involved. EchoSpan is much more affordable and offers a very similar quality of report.
Our shortlist was: Litmus, Success Factors, Absorb, and Bloomfire. Our primary business need was learning management

a) Bloomfire – seemed more of a social networking, knowledge management tool, not really for learning management and so was eliminated.

b) Our initial choice was Success Factors, but we couldn’t come to terms on the contract. They weren’t willing to work with us on contract language for future purchases. Workday (who we use for HRIS) used Success Factors as their LMS at the time, but I understand it's since been decommissioned.

c) We didn’t know about Cornerstone at the time we selected Success Factors, but would have picked them otherwise. We learned about them after we had ruled out Success Factors. We ended up choosing Cornerstone as it had the best integration with Outlook and the highest capability to integrated with our HRIS (Workday) and to customize. You can change the display of the interface and put things where you want to go. It is highly customizable for branding and business

Return on Investment

  • It has allowed feedback from many employees so certain issues that needed to be dealt with became more transparent.
  • Our employee definitely feel difference when they start using Cornerstone OnDemand. The system is very intuitive. We don`t need to train them beforehand.
  • We see increase in system usage from month to month.
  • We are still on the begining of journey to change users' behavior and encourage them to drive the learning process themselves. Cornerstone OnDemand is the perfect partner for this.
