EchoSpan 360-Degree Feedback Tool

I can't imagine a scenario where it is less appropriate than any other 360 tool. It's easy to use, customizable, and inexpensive. Reports are easy to interpret. Great tool for anyone looking to implement a new 360.

Pros

  • Competency library is robust - includes pretty much any competency that you would need
  • Excellent customer service, both online (demonstrations of how to) and via phone/email
  • Completely customizable - different targets can have different competencies, rater types, rating scales, etc.
  • Flexible options for question creation, response visualization, and downloading data (especially with API features).
  • Easy panel management and built-in survey distribution tools.
  • High quality customer service from skilled experts in the software.

Cons

  • It would be beneficial if the system automatically reported if an email was returned because of an incorrect address.
  • Qualtrics reporting features tend to be more useful for surveys with only a handful of questions, and less helpful for organizing a report for a more complex survey. The built-in analysis tools are inadequate for larger data sets. If you have a lot of data, you will still need to rely on an external statistical package for analysis and reporting.
  • The fact that Qualtrics saves changes made in the survey editor in real-time sometimes makes it difficult to try multiple versions of a question. There is an ability in Qualtrics to revert to previous drafts, but it's not as intuitive as the rest of the software.

I have trained one colleague who had no background in survey programming. She has picked it up quite nicely and can program things fairly easily without much assistance

I still use it. It does everything you need an online survey to do. From heat mapping to complex skip logic and display logic. I use it weekly and it never disappoints

I like being able to easily integrate new colleagues by simply giving them a log in user name and password

Alternatives Considered

Both EchoSpan and the other vendor supplied comparable products, so the major difference was the cost involved. EchoSpan is much more affordable and offers a very similar quality of report.
I vastly prefer Qualtrics to Survey Monkey because there are more options, it is more professional, and it is more widely used in my field.

Return on Investment

  • It has allowed feedback from many employees so certain issues that needed to be dealt with became more transparent.
  • Fast survey deployment in-house when we were rushing to meet some critical deadlines
