I use 7Sheep for marketing as a sales person. This works well for me as a single user. I do not think I could use the software together with my colleagues. Although we could have separated lists the access rights might not fit our use case. It has a strong marketing focus and cannot replace a full CRM system.

HubSpot

HubSpot Professional is suited to small to medium businesses looking to accelerate their business growth. It's especially useful for businesses just at that tipping point of getting too much business to manage on spreadsheets and word documents any more. If your team is growing it will help you to get more out of your existing people and slot new members in to the team with minimal training.

Pros

  • Affordability: the only solution we found on the market that gave us what we needed at a price we can afford!
  • Flexibility: 7Sheep seems to offer enough flexibility in the advance features that we can customise it as we need.
  • It's easy enough for our whole team to be able to use.
  • Their team is helpful and supportive.
  • Marketing automation with workflows
  • Powerful design tools
  • A plethora of sales tools which speed up the process

Cons

  • A/B testing for mailings needs to be done manually.
  • It could be easier to get the tags for personalised emails. Currently you need to copy/paste them into the email instead of using the editor menu.
  • For complete skinning you need to contact support. For embedded forms the design editor is okay.
  • More in portal optimization checks.
  • The keyword tool for blogs. Currently, it only senses the keyword if you have the entire phrase together, whereas you should optimize by having variations of the keyword throughout the piece. It doesn't sense that.
  • More support for training teams that aren't marketing minds in the software.

The tool serves our needs and we like the user interface. The few times we contacted support they were super helpful and responsive. When we asked for more integrations they confirmed the integrations we need (e.g. Hipchat) for the near future.

I've been using HubSpot for six years and I know it's the best solution for SMBs pursuing inbound and content marketing. As long as I'm working with, or I am, an small or medium-sized business and have sufficient content to share with target prospects, I'm confident that HubSpot will remain the right solution for me and those firms with whom I am working.

Hubspot's tools typically walk you through everything step by step so you don't get lost or confused and offers a lot of help topics to help you.

We made a decision as an agency to only work with Hubspot. The software is easy to work with, and the support is very good

With all the new features in HubSpot, the system can get a tad slow sometimes... That said, most of the time it is lightning fast and I have no problems. Because most of the integrations are API, they silently work in the background. I have not had trouble with lag due to HubSpot integration

I seem to always talk to the same person and they've been very helpful and given support where needed.

They are always quick to reply, quick to solve an issue and always keep you updated, even when they haven't found the answer yet (which has never taken more than 48 hours)

I did the 2-day classroom at HubSpot's corporate office in Cambridge. First off, it was amazing to see their corporate office in general. They have such a cool office environment. But it was also great to have the ability to learn in a workshop format with other HubSpot users and meet my Account Manager/ Inbound Marketing Consultant in person.

I started the HubSpot Academy and I did the online classes to get inbound certified long before purchasing the platform. The format is pretty simple: watch videos, do some workshopping, and then take a test to become certified. The classes are very informative and generally do not take too long to complete. Also, part of your implementation fee includes an Inbound Marketing Consultant who helps set up your first campaigns.

If you are coming from a system such as WordPress, HubSpot can seem overly constraining. Realize that HubSpot is designed to put the power of a website into a non-programmer's hands. Your marketing people should be able to do pretty much everything, without resorting the technical staff.

Alternatives Considered

Better integration in our workflow and in our own application.
All of these other products have elements of what HubSpot has, but I find that none bring together all of HubSpot's features. What really convinced us to sign on with HubSpot (and stay with them) is the support they provide. Their team is amazing and you always get a live person on the phone with very little wait.

While HubSpot initially, seven years ago, seemed built for SMBs it appears they have scaled their solution for larger enterprises. I do not have experience sending out 10 million-plus emails per month so I don't know how HubSpot would handle that. However, I do know that some other marketing automation platforms have had trouble with such scale. As such, I suggest HubSpot have one of it's enterprise customers share data on the length of time it takes to send out 1 million emails. Are we talking minutes, hours or days? Then decide what's right for you based on your business needs.

Return on Investment

  • increasing customer engagement
  • increased ease to deliver multiple step marketing campaigns
  • fewer forgotten emails due to drip campaign automation
  • Faster lead conversion
  • Recover idle accounts more efficiently
