I use 7Sheep for marketing as a sales person. This works well for me as a single user. I do not think I could use the software together with my colleagues. Although we could have separated lists the access rights might not fit our use case. It has a strong marketing focus and cannot replace a full CRM system.

There is always room for improvement, even with the best tools so remember that during the selection process. SilverPop gives marketers all the tools they need to more efficiently manage landing pages, email campaigns, and determine the ROI or value of those campaigns.

Pros

7Sheep

  • Sporadic mailings to my clients via the e-mail campaign feature. I create personlised HTML emails with the visual editor and schedule them to be sent during the day when I am on the road.
  • After initial contact with new clients I setup a series of timed emails to stay in contact. Based on flags I have in the system they are automatically adjusted.
  • Existing clients get automated emails after certain events like visits or deliveries.
  • I often get in touch with support to ask for best practice examples and they are always helpful.

Cons

7Sheep

  • It would be useful if some standard email templates were available.
  • They could find a way to make the form questions easier/quicker to reorder.
  • I would like to be able to change user roles so that only certain people could see certain contact lists.

  • The main [area for] improvement would be the user interface..... it’s extremely hard to compare to Eloqua or Responsys
  • Reports !!! Please include Watson Analytics or something !!

Overall, we are happy with the service and results of Engage. Also, the general investment in the product (integration with CRM and CMS) and training of users has been significant.

This is a little bit difficult to rate because Silverpop is gradually updating its interface to improve usability all around. I know users are able to do their job with minimal assistance. However, some of the interface is dated, and the Programs interface, while functional, has a bit of a learning curve.

While several of the other reviews have mentioned poor performance in this department, we have only had one situation where the system was down (although it was down for several hours). Silverpop segments its clients on different servers, and I know that the problem we experienced only occurred on our specific server (maybe other servers have had their own problems?) but our service has been reliable otherwise.

Some parts of the system are very quick - others can really crawl. I imagine it depends on overall server strain - but I think part of it can also be traced back to the specific browser being used

Admittedly, I use support a lot, primarily when my users have questions (or problems) that I cannot resolve. Support is always quick to respond (either by email or phone), and do their best to resolve problems or concerns as quickly as possible. There have been times where some problems have taken over a week, but if you talk to your relationship manager, they can usually be escalated and quickly resolved. Overall -- the support is there when you need it, and is available 24 hours.Additionally, there is also the user community and knowledge base for those who want to research on their own.

The online trainings are very detailed (for the most part) and really walk through the entire system. They are a little dry, but they are usually broken up into segments to allow you to skip to the parts you need.

Implementation for the most part went smoothly - and I don't think the hiccups were Silverpop's problem. Understanding our internal need for multiple IP addresses and handling our CRM integration made for some bumps in the road - but that was later, after our first year -- not our initial implementation. The initial implementation went smoothly.

I've used MailChimp before and I liked their product as well, however, data protection is key in our organization. As we are working in multiple countries, some of which have very strict data protection laws, and it was important that we kept the data stored on servers in Europe. MailChimp's servers are in the US, as is the case for many other similar companies. That alone was a major reason for us to go with 7Sheep, which is a European company that keeps all data stored on servers in Europe

Silverpop is a far more sophisticated and complex solution that can incorporate out of the box a great number of features. Since Silverpop was acquired by IBM the product features are added really fast and other solutions are incorporated to the product. Also, IBM can locally support the product and that adds to the overall support experience

Return on Investment

7Sheep

  • 7Sheep has definitely had a positive impact on our organizational objectives. Thanks to the event registration tool, our event preparation and implementation runs a lot more smoothly.
  • By allowing us to share a contact database across several offices, we save a lot of time. No more sending Excel files full of contacts from one office to the other.
  • Being able to see how people respond to our mailings (for example, a periodic newsletter we send out electronically) gives us the opportunity to make changes in order to better engage our audience. Generally, it's a great tool for reporting.
  • By allowing us to export data about participants at our events (for example, based on what country they come from) we can quickly and easily identify which parts of our target group we are reaching and which parts we are missing.

IBM Watson Campaign Automation

  • ROI is the main reason for choosing such a solution. The whole approach is based on exactly that.
  • The vast number of integrations help connect other systems used on clients' processes.
