As long as you know what you need 7Sheep for, then you will be impressed at how much it will do for you. If you only have a small list of contacts and only talk to them once a year, then you'll probably not need it - but if you are involved in any kind of communications/PR within multiple clients or multiple stakeholder groups, it will make your life a lot easier once you've understood how to work it yourself

Oracle Eloqua

Eloqua is well suited for clients with the need to automate marketing tasks to save on time and money. This would be most marketing teams and primarily B2B. Eloqua may be used for B2C marketing but there are better fit products for that.Eloqua is especially great for large and/or complex marketing, sales, and IT teams. It has the ability to be customized to meet their needs while not being extremely difficult to setup and manage. It has functionality that its competitors lack to support global, large marketing teams.

Pros

  • With an embedded form we capture leads on our website. These leads get a drip campaign.
  • After someone has signed up we store relevant details in 7Sheep via the API and start a drip campaign.
  • All users and leads get our newsletter and updates.
  • We have installed the 7Sheep tracking code on our website to get additional information about our leads.
  • It's a robust platform that allows you many different customizations.

Cons

  • A/B testing for mailings needs to be done manually.
  • It could be easier to get the tags for personalised emails. Currently you need to copy/paste them into the email instead of using the editor menu.
  • For complete skinning you need to contact support. For embedded forms the design editor is okay.
  • They recently went to a more impersonal account management model. This really stinks. Not that our CSM was really that great but based on the fact that it was always nice that you had one person who was in your corner if something really went wrong.
  • The topliners community used to be really strong and would provide a TON of support for Eloqua users. Now, you can wait weeks before anyone replies to a question or issue that's posted.
  • Eloqua support used to be very robust. Now, it seems like they are just trying to close as many tickets as possible and are very quick to respond with, "Oh, no that's not our issue." or "You are going to have to ask a partner to help you with that!"
  • Eloqua has failed to innovate....it USED to be THE platform to go with. Now, Marketo has really stepped up and brought some innovative features to the marketing automation area such as a more user-friendly email builder, landing page builder, and ABM capabilities.

The implementation of Eloqua is not a problem if data are correct and if the overall process between Eloqua and the CRM are well taken into account.

Alternatives Considered

A normal email client does not support automation.
I feel that if we were able to get over the challenge of switching, we would be able to move to Marketo and have a much more positive experience.

It can be difficult to ensure everyone is following the guidelines, best practices and policy of the tool. I am constantly policing it and finding users who are not doing what it required or sending messages via Eloqua that are not approved
