I use 7Sheep for marketing as a sales person. This works well for me as a single user. I do not think I could use the software together with my colleagues. Although we could have separated lists the access rights might not fit our use case. It has a strong marketing focus and cannot replace a full CRM system.

SharpSpring

SharpSpring is ideal for companies that have a contact database of 5000 upwards, who email updates and marketing messages 3 - 4 times a month. In comparison to other email systems, it's worth the fees alone for better email management, not to mention the CRM aspects of the system. Everything else is a bonus. Smaller SME clients, who have a smaller contact database may not get the full value, compared to using free available marketing tools.

Pros

  • 7Sheep's support is fantastic and they have been extremely helpful, whenever we have encountered issues or needed assistance, in particular when we first began using the product. They were great in helping us to customize everything for our use.
  • I particularly appreciate how easy it is to create queries and separate our contact lists. This aids us immensely with targeted communications.
  • The tags to personalize mailings are incredibly useful and save a lot of time.
  • I enabled text message campaigns within our account and it is really very simple, a very low additional cost and drives our personalized engagement further.

  • The value is exceptional. There is no way we'd be able to offer the benefits of marketing automation to our clients with any other platform out there now.
  • The people have always been a pleasure to work with.
  • The onboarding was customized to how we were planning to use the platform. At no point were we made to feel that we didn't know marketing at all just because we hadn't yet used a marketing automation platform.
  • They are constantly rolling out new features and capabilities.
  • Really easy to keep our clients up to date with their automatic VisitorID emails and other automation we've set up.

Cons

  • Import is sometimes slow.
  • Seeing the segment for a mailing switches to the result list. Would be good to stay in the mailing.

  • The sales process (pipeline) has no automation functionality. It would be great if this could be automated to some extend as well.
  • You can only create triggers on actions that people take. Not on actions people do not take. To create this it often takes a workaround. For example, it is not possible to create a trigger on 'did not open e-mail'.
  • We are a Dutch agency, and the tooling SharpSpring uses for recognizing who visits your website is quite poor in Holland. We do not get a lot of data. Would be great if the could partner up with a Dutch party for this. That would give us a bit more value.
  • Some things could use an update. For example button creation in e-mails, this has limited possibilities.
  • Some things are not adjustable. Like the message people get whet they unsubscribe. We would like to make this a bit more personal / friendlier but this is not possible.

They are the best choice for me and I could use any system I want because I know how to build and pilot these solutions. I love SharpSpring and plan to be a long-term partner with them. My customers love SharpSpring so far, but I must admit not everybody is as disciplined as they can be to drive the real ROI. If you buy a Ferrari or your dream race car and don't get training or use it on a track, pay pros to coach and train you, how will you get the silly car to perform well?

The surprising thing is SharpSpring is surprisingly fast to learn and easy to use so small business owners and marketing managers can login and see SharpSpring in actions for themselves. The numerous built-in help videos allow client users to become do-it-yourself marketers, which is very important to small businesses. This also means lots of users can figure things out on their own rather than have to schedule training or log support requests.

Our custom application (CASL compliance) was not the typical on-boarding process for SharpSpring and they managed it very well. If we had to do it over, we would have let SharpSpring train us in their standard manner, trusting that the CASL compliance issues would sort themselves out in the process. Due to our own decisions we made our learning curve a little more difficult.

Alternatives Considered

I've mostly used survey monkey and google forms and doodle for small inexpensive jobs - anything more sophisticated always seemed to cost more than the actual fee I charge. 7sheep does everything they do, but it automates a lot of the processing, for a cost which is affordable and makes me more efficient - as I can use my subscription for different clients.

We tried SharpSpring before so it was easy to start again because we already knew how it worked. HubSpot is quite expensive and Active Campaign is a bit simple. So SharpSpring is a good in-between solution. But we like to keep options open and always try to advise our clients on the tool that offers the needed features for the best price.

  • Our two drip campaings make staying in touch so much easier.
  • A big plus is to have all contact data for leads and clients in one tool to use with newsletters etc.
  • Constant communication during onboarding can be a pain and this is now easier.

  • I produce and deploy messaging campaigns for my clients to help them generate leads. Without the power of SharpSpring, many of those leads would be lost or mismanaged.
  • I've been able to add this to my arsenal of solutions to offer my clients--I'm a small company like many of my clients. Offering SharpSpring at such an affordable price really does make marketing automation an easy call to make.
