Some of the best scenarios are working remotely. It really allows you to get everything you need out of an office phone right from your computer/cell without any need for hardware. It's not great when you've already plugged in a dialer of some sort, or software like Outreach.io that has some overlap in features (click to dial, especially).

Nextiva

Nextiva is a well-developed platform. From the backend to their phone system, everything seems to be made with a lot of thought with the best interest of the customer in mind. It seems like a business that is constantly making updates to their platform, and system so it's becoming more effective. We are eagerly waiting for their new NextOS platform.

Pros

  • Ability to find the right employee from the start if they select find by name feature
  • It is a professional system that is up 24/7 days a week.
  • Great customer support. We have had several instances where we need some change to our phone system and it was a breeze to fix.
  • Ability to talk on the go. When our employees are on business trips they can use their personal cell phones to answer business calls with the Nextiva App. Our employees don't need to carry an extra phone

Cons

  • RAM usage could be lower
  • Cross platform?
  • At times, I am confused on the ability of VoIP itself. What features could be added to make our business more effective? I am unaware of these various features. It's an issue that seems to be an issue from a user perspective.
  • We had an issue where our internet was throbbing and thought it was Nextiva. From a user standpoint if there's a way that we can determine right away what the issue is at hand.

Since we purchase software maintenance the cost of upgrade is greatly reduced. It would be cost prohibitive at this point to switch a worldwide operation to another CCTV platform. We have been happy with the overall performance of Nextiva as a product for many years.

The system its self rarely gives me any downtime that is not planned. Now with old encoders in the mix those do occasionally fail and are replaced at failure.

Nextiva uses an integrator business model so if your integrator gives you poor support there is no easy way to escalate above the integrator short of choosing a new integrator.

This was first rate as it allowed hands on training with multiple choice testing and certification upon successful completion.

Alternatives Considered

I had no control over this but we are using 8x8 virtual office enterprise suite to get some of the functionality, mostly click to dial and contact handling. It's not exactly a competitor, but if you're looking for an easy way to utilize your company phone system remotely, I've had a great experience, including working from home for an entire month on it.
We spoke to Vonage and RingCentral. When speaking with Vonage, the rep seemed really pushy and wasn't genuine. We decided to cut it short, and heard they have a lot of bad customer service.
