8x8 Virtual Office

We were using another VoIP service before and we constantly have to restart meetings due to sound quality. After 2 hours of conferences, the sound would completely go out and you couldn't understand anyone.

After switching over to 8x8, that never happens. 4-5 hour calls are now bearable.

I recommend BlueJeans all the time. I push it on vendors I talk to who are using competing products that just don't work as well.

  • BlueJeans excels at onboard training. Both from a content and availability stand point.
  • Ease of use is a high mark. The connectivity is very intuitive and easy to train.
  • The plug-in app for Office 365 makes scheduling meetings simple, fast, and intuitive.

Cons

  • Outdated UI. Aesthetically, 8x8 is not overly impressive. If you told me nothing about the software and only showed me some screenshots, I might venture to guess that it's a software from the mid 90s.
  • Lacking intuitive UX. I'm someone that typically picks up a software very fast. When I first started with 8x8, I recall stumbling through my first couple of weeks of interaction. That tells me that the UX could use some work.

  • In the current format video uploads are missing the mark. The foundation seems to be in place for uploading videos but the functionality of playing videos with sound or utilizing PowerPoint presentations with videos embedded does not function well.

Based on their poor customer service and lack of warranty replacement, I would not recommend or use 8x8.

Really because the audio and video quality is so good that we really have no reason to look elsewhere. Also the cost of hardware to have it installed in all of our conference rooms was quite high, and competing products would not use the same setup. Also to go to the next tier of product would be 4x as expensive per room, and not really worth it

This rating comes from end user experience. When they step into a meeting, they get asked to put in SSO credentials if the meeting is restricted. In many cases, the meeting is open to anyone and staff needs to enter a name to continue. Some staff will forget to add a name and come in as a Guest. Call in options will only provide the phone number for the person calling in on the participant roster. This overall can be a little confusing for some, but to others this is a great service.

The fact that I normally get a response within the hour to my tickets, and can reach out to our rep via slack during normal business hours has been great. this has been far above what we have gotten from other vendors and has really made the transition a lot easier

With the exception of a few hiccups we had a pretty good experience rolling out bluejeans. user adoption was really quick as it integrated into their gsuite, and we pushed the chrome extension via google admin and the desktop app via JAMF. the training ahead of the rollout provided by bluejeans was kinda boring and pretty unnecessary as the system is very easy to use, and most users opted to skip the training

Alternatives Considered

It was one of the first things that Google showed. I've also used it in the past. Their customer service, I believe, puts them over the top over other vendors out there and you know when/if you need help, they have a friendly staff waiting to help you! Best service out there!

BlueJeans is a great competitor for these other UC platforms. Zoom still carries favor within some of our depts, however. As Skype for Business is phasing out, many people have chosen to work with BlueJeans. We are looking into Microsoft Teams as well.Cisco WebEx favored well with Cisco hardware, but we enjoyed the many conferencing solutions that BlueJeans was compatible with as well

Return on Investment

  • The impact on my business was a positive one. I was trying to operate with 2 cell phones and it just wasn't working. I needed a desk phone and a number that would stay the same for the business. I can also add more lines as we grow and they can be anywhere with an internet connection. As a small business, I work primarily out of my home office and my employees can do the same with this system.

  • The amount of travel for meetings has increased overall.
  • Communication from executive to general staff has increased.
  • An overall decrease in phone usage for meetings (about 2-3% less)
