8x8 Virtual Office is well-suited in environments where those who administrate logistics are technology-literate and able to quickly grasp the features to save time and make phone system management ultra convenient and hassle-free. I think Virtual Office would be confusing or hard to figure out for people who may be less technologically-inclined, and may actually end up slowing them down.

Genesys PureCloud

PureCloud is well suited to multi site desk-based businesses and those who have remote workers. The Web-based interface and WebRTC phone mean that PureCloud will function wherever you are in the world, providing you have an internet connection. PureCloud has been successfully deployed to circa 450 users within our organization across 10 sites plus a handful of home workers. PureCloud and is remotely managed from our 2 larger sites.

Pros

8x8 Virtual Office

  • Voicemail management is great. Users don't have to sit and listen to all voicemails at once. They can target a particular voicemail and listen to just that one if they want.
  • Altering phone lines and extensions is as simple as the click of a mouse! Super convenient!
  • Auto attendant is a quick, easy way to direct incoming calls without having to have an actual person answer each call. Callers can quickly be routed exactly where they need to go with the wide variety of auto-attendant settings!

  • Less down time in comparison to some other providers I have used in the past.

8x8 Virtual Office

  • Voicemail passwords. 8x8 imposes certain limitations on voicemail passwords, like not letting you use any number combination that is also a year between 1900 and 2019 I think. We have used the number combination 1957 for a particular purpose, not related to the year, but 8x8 will not allow us to use this as a voicemail password. I think users should be able to choose whatever passcode they'd like for their voicemail, as long as it's 4-digits or more, or whatever the parameters are.

  • The inability to manually pick up waiting calls is disappointing.
  • Some of the API rate limits are a bit low. It limits the features and functionality of our in-client apps.
  • The UI is clean and modern, but a little more thought could be applied to UX. It's a bit crowded and hard to navigate at times. Fonts' size can be reduced in places. There's too much vertical scrolling.
  • The lack of change history auditing is concerning. It would be nice to see what changes admins are making.
  • Lack of custom handlers.
  • In Architect, assigning a string value to a Skill variable is not possible without using parallel arrays. Why?

In the time I have used 8x8 Virtual Office, the core system has been up and running almost flawlessly though we do have a slight performance degradation from time to time as is expected of cloud software. The one recurring issue for us is that the fax connection is not always functional for outbound messages. We usually have to retry three or four times to get the fax to connect reliably to the destination machine. Once connected, it's smooth sailing.

None of the features that are available slow down the application. The reports (even the ones with hundreds of records) complete very quickly and the web interface as well as the mobile application never struggle to load or complete a task. The analytics will sometimes take some time to reflect the online status of users but it is to be expected due to connection speeds.

The previous hosted system was discontinued. 8x8 selected primarily for the cost to achieve the functionality we needed. Some features, e.g. the desktop application were a bonus.

Amazon Connect wasn't listed in the above list. We were previously using PureConnect. We assumed the transition would be easier because we had great support from our Genesys Partner (Wrendata). We liked the app foundry add-ins.

Scalability

We've had periods where our organization has grown a considerable amount and we have had no issues in scaling our communications with 8x8. The number of possible extensions that we can use is far more than we expect to go through in a very long time. The only complaint that I have is a very minor inconvenience for me where I have to download activation codes for each phone. I would prefer to have the phones automatically activated as soon as they are plugged in.

  • + A big upgrade from our existing telephony system with future systems.
  • - A big step for an agent to work. The softphone is not fully user-friendly. The ergonomy (shortcut, web page,...) Made agent lost time.
  • - Not an industrial solution lot of work to deploy the solution . Everything is not really finished.
  • + Big step to a worldwide solution to ingrate a common model for every subs.
