Any business that has workers in multiple locations or workers who are based out for the office for significant periods of time will really benefit from the 8x8 cloud-based system. Your direct line follows you around, but because of the Virtual Attendant, office hours and out of hours can be configured so that you only receive calls when you're "at work."

Truly the flexibility of not being tethered to my desk is the greatest joy of Cisco Jabber. It is so beneficial for me to be able to go to other offices and be collaborating with others but still not miss important calls to keep work flowing. This tool goes a long way to making users available to communicate while getting work done. I would totally recommend this as it is a great tool for modern professional environments.

  • Remote access to my phone system to make changes or to use its many features.
  • The ability to view voice mail transcripts - very helpful during meetings when listening is not an option.
  • The new contacts search feature allows you type in partial names and all that apply pop up.

  • The Cisco Jabber client allows a user the flexibility of location while still being available to anyone for collaboration and communication. No longer tethered to a desk to take calls. This is a huge benefit in my mind
  • Cisco Jabber also provides presence and availability status without even needing to actually call or send a message to someone to determine availability. This saves a ton of time from wasted effort trying to find someone and learn if they are available to collaborate.
  • When configured correctly Cisco Jabber can also be integrated with some calendaring systems to automatically update the status of a user.

  • Virtual Office needs a "Lite" version, more than minimized but not using as much screen real estate as a full-size mode.
  • Would like to see Call Recording server replicating in near real-time to East Coast switch instead of residing at only West Coast switch.

  • There is some brand confusion that exists between Cisco communication products. This is more relevant to the support personnel and engineers that would be making decisions to implement the product. Cisco has their Spark/WebEx platform that provides collaboration/communication functionality and more to the end users. Cisco has stated at some conferences that I attended that they are committed to maintaining and developing the Cisco Jabber platform still so that is very promising since the product serves different needs.
  • Cisco Jabber is a little complex to implement properly in your environment. The larger the communication cluster the more complicated it can become. There are also some additional features like persistent chat that require extra resources like a standalone database for persistent chat.

Jabber is definitely the solution to have the Cisco softphone and be able to take the extension anywhere with the application installed on cell phones. In addition, in call centers, it helps to be able to talk with the other person and at the same time have ypur hands free to work with the computer.

In the time I have used 8x8 Virtual Office, the core system has been up and running almost flawlessly though we do have a slight performance degradation from time to time as is expected of cloud software. The one recurring issue for us is that the fax connection is not always functional for outbound messages. We usually have to retry three or four times to get the fax to connect reliably to the destination machine. Once connected, it's smooth sailing.

None of the features that are available slow down the application. The reports (even the ones with hundreds of records) complete very quickly and the web interface as well as the mobile application never struggle to load or complete a task. The analytics will sometimes take some time to reflect the online status of users but it is to be expected due to connection speeds.

Even with the Jabber client, Cisco support is outstanding, with the knowledge and quick response you would expect from them. Their engineers understand their products and our issues are usually addressed quickly and by the same person we originally connect with instead of getting passed to additional people. Follow-up is good too. Their support is thorough.

We had been using Lotus (IBM) Sametime for years. About 5 years ago, we decided to move out of IBM for mails, and go for Exchange/Outlook. As a result, we also naturally considered ditching Sametime who was tightly integrated with Lotus Notes. Jabber is a good fit for us as we are using Cisco IP telephony system, and both integrate fairly well together.

We've had periods where our organization has grown a considerable amount and we have had no issues in scaling our communications with 8x8. The number of possible extensions that we can use is far more than we expect to go through in a very long time. The only complaint that I have is a very minor inconvenience for me where I have to download activation codes for each phone. I would prefer to have the phones automatically activated as soon as they are plugged in.

  • Jabber has provided a very functional alternative to our company to Lotus Sametime. We had been using Sametime for years, and as we were moving out of the Lotus/Domino ecosystem, Jabber has provided a replacement with the chat system, but also means to do voice and video calls.
  • Although handy, intensive usage of Jabber can be a curse for a company (including ours). Every information stored in Jabber is only available to the two people involved in the conversation. Without a proper knowledge management strategy, this can mean that a lot of valuable information can be shared privately as peer-to-peer conversations, and not available to people who need it.
  • Another downside of Jabber is that it can multiply stress for some people, who can be contacted very often, and be interrupted at critical moments. This can introduce additional context switching, and reduce the productivity of some people.
