We were using another VoIP service before and we constantly have to restart meetings due to sound quality. After 2 hours of conferences, the sound would completely go out and you couldn't understand anyone.

After switching over to 8x8, that never happens. 4-5 hour calls are now bearable.

Skype for Business

It is a tool that adapts very well to meetings of a high professional level, being very effective for the transmission of information and the reduction of logistics expenses and the growth of the personnel. Skype adapts well as a tool of communication at a distance with the work teams, since it allows the reduction of the operative expenses and the execution times of the strategic instructions of the organization, guaranteeing the adequate use of the available time for the production of the company. It does not adapt very well for the organization of meetings at distances that merit communication with personnel located in communities of difficult access, which do not have an excellent connection to the internet, therefore the tool is more advisable for office activities but not field.

Pros

  • No issues purchasing the Cisco SPA-122 and SPA-8000 devices.
  • No issues setting up the Cisco SPA-122 and SPA-8000 devices.
  • Cheaper to go with 8x8 service and the Cisco SPA-122 or Cisco SPA-8000 devices than hosting GFI Faxmaker 14 yourself.
  • Status: Integration with Outlook and Outlook calendar makes it easy for you if you accept a meeting invitation. Skype will read your calendar data and change your status to "In a Meeting" where you won't get disturbed by side chats or notifications.
  • Remote connection: another great tool if you need to connect with someone and show them how something is done. For example, you need to install your company printer on their machine, it is easier to take control than to explain chatting.
  • Video and Audio calls: Skype always had high-quality calls, nothing has changed in that department, you can always call a colleague and have a talk about something that must be explained quickly.
  • Ability to add Skype contacts outside of your organization. It makes Skype for Business also your personal Skype, but you shouldn't share your organization email easily with everyone.

Cons

  • More tutorials
  • Make the systems more intuitive
  • Lower costs
  • Having multiple Chats/Conversations open, make Skype unresponsive from time to time. Sometimes it has tendencies of crashing even on high-end machines.
  • Grouping chats - Works well, however, there is no option to group appointed meeting conversation with other regular conversations/chats that were not initiated by calendar event.
  • Should be able to have some themes to choose from. Microsoft is going for a dark theme in Windows insider program. Personal Skype already has it why wouldn't Skype for business have it? It is pleasant to the eye, at least in my opinion and for my eyes.

Based on their poor customer service and lack of warranty replacement, I would not recommend or use 8x8.

I honestly feel that with most people using iPhone nowadays, it's easy to just call or use FaceTime if you need to be in touch with a client. Unless you need to have a conference call, there are plenty of ways to get in touch with a client otherwise besides using a somewhat inefficient program.

I have never heard any of the engineers or techs say that they have has any problems with skype for business in terms of support from the manufacturer. With that said I am going to say that there are not many issues and when there are, they are fixed rather quicky.

Skpe for business is utilized company wide in regards to my company. Everyone not only uses it, but uses it often. It is an effective way of communicating. It also integrates very nicely with outlook and all conversation history is pushed to a folder within the outlook system. We also have it so that if someone misses a message, they are sent an email reminder saying that there is a message that went unread.

Alternatives Considered

Ten times better and easier to use than 3cx. Interface and features are simple.
Skype for business is just a professional tool compared to all competitors. There are no things that will distract you from finishing your daily tasks unlikely from competitors which are trying to make mix of Fun and Business, but my personal opinion is that a Business tool shouldn't have Emojis, Hashtags and social media integration, unless your job requires you to work with social networks or if you are from social networking company.

Return on Investment

  • It has neither had a positive or negative impact.
  • I cannot imagine working my day job without Skype for business. When it goes down, we are cut from the communication with the rest of the organization, making it hard to do almost anything.
  • If you depend on collaboration with your colleges, Skype will impact that field of your job in the best possible way.
