We were using another VoIP service before and we constantly have to restart meetings due to sound quality. After 2 hours of conferences, the sound would completely go out and you couldn't understand anyone.

After switching over to 8x8, that never happens. 4-5 hour calls are now bearable.

Talkdesk

Talkdesk seems better suited for a support center than an outbound call center. Many of the features that we find missing are more relevant to outbound calling (like redial and voicemail) than to a support center where agents are queued up for inbound calls. One major disadvantage is unreliability over wi-fi, so it doesn't support remote or work-from-home employees very well.

Pros

  • Portability! Having an "office phone" built into my laptop is unbelievably convenient. I can be at a coffee shop, on the road, at home, etc. and never miss a call.
  • Reliability. Bugs in the software seem to be VERY few and far between.
  • Customer service. When we had to reach out to 8x8 when I worked in support, the reps we worked with were very responsive and always available. That's always a huge plus when working with software.
  • Our Talkdesk CSM is extremely helpful and friendly. Probably the main highlight of using their technology.
  • Their support team is quick to respond to opened tickets.
  • Talkdesk's product managers have been good about keeping us in the loop on upcoming releases.

Cons

  • More tutorials
  • Make the systems more intuitive
  • Lower costs
  • We had a few times that support was trying to help, but they struggled to simplify the answer so that our less-tech-savvy member could implement on it.
  • Pages load slow sometimes, but that could be to our high user volume.
  • Can't really think of much else. Like a good VOIP system, we didn't spend much time thinking about it.

Based on their poor customer service and lack of warranty replacement, I would not recommend or use 8x8.

Alternatives Considered

Ten times better and easier to use than 3cx. Interface and features are simple.
We used a local system for a bit. Great people, but had dropped calls left and right. We also used Ring Central for a while, and while they were a solid platform, they did not have many integration options. We are now switching to ZenTalk. which I would say is a lateral switch, also solid, but much more functional with Zendesk.

Return on Investment

  • It has neither had a positive or negative impact.
  • "It Just Works" - this is a benefit because we don't have to extensive training on Talkdesk. I've been at other companies where phone system training takes hours and figuring out the phone system is like writing a dissertation in fluid dynamics.
  • Support from Talkdesk has also been positive. Whenever I have an issue, the team gets back to me via email within 20 minutes. Overall this makes me feel like it is a good investment/good choice.
  • The Salesforce integration saves tons of logging time and provides valuable clarity for our management team.
