Any business that has workers in multiple locations or workers who are based out for the office for significant periods of time will really benefit from the 8x8 cloud-based system. Your direct line follows you around, but because of the Virtual Attendant, office hours and out of hours can be configured so that you only receive calls when you're "at work."

Truly the flexibility of not being tethered to my desk is the greatest joy of Cisco Jabber. It is so beneficial for me to be able to go to other offices and be collaborating with others but still not miss important calls to keep work flowing. This tool goes a long way to making users available to communicate while getting work done. I would totally recommend this as it is a great tool for modern professional environments.

  • If individuals work for your company, their name and title is shown, as well as recent transactions you've had with them. In a dynamic environment such as the one I was employed, it was very organized and beneficial.
  • A strength of Jabber would be the integration involving alternate services a business might provide. It lets coworkers know if you are presenting a PowerPoint slide show by flashing "In Presentation Mode" which lets colleagues know not to message you at that time.
  • Everything works pretty smoothly and without a hitch. Another strength of Jabber is that it's been around long to enough to have many of the bugs and kinks worked out.

  • Virtual Office needs a "Lite" version, more than minimized but not using as much screen real estate as a full-size mode.
  • Would like to see Call Recording server replicating in near real-time to East Coast switch instead of residing at only West Coast switch.

  • There is no Linux client. I don't run a Linux workstation on my daily work, but I have colleagues who do. They struggle a bit with alternative clients in order to connect with Jabber. Most of them, if not all, do not have the capability to send or receive images in chats.
  • Jabber does not synchronize the conversations over multiple devices. My main computer is a Mac, and my backup computer runs on Windows. When Jabber is opened on both, one of the computer starts to receive all messages, while the other doesn't see them. I might lose some conversations just because they appear only on the other computer.
  • Jabber does not keep a server-side history of conversations. All conversations are stored only on the computer of the two people discussing. When switching to a new computer, we have to archive our conversations, otherwise we would lose them.

We've had an excellent experience with 8x8 Virtual Office. We have downtime very rarely and the service provided by all reps is excellent. The little quirks that I've mentioned as cons are minor inconveniences but I prefer working like that than hosting our own PBX.

The web interface is easy to navigate and the data that I need is only ever one or two clicks away. When running reports, I don't have to deal with convoluted filters or awkward logic implementations, it just works and it works well. If I had to fault it for something, I would say that the interface is not consistent all over the place; The account manager portal and the Virtual Office portal have two completely different styles.

There are still some improvements to be made between MAC and Windows users. Also the share screen between various devices does not always work. Any user can quickly adapt and understand how to use Jabber. The interface is very intuitive and straight forward. The transition between interfaces on PCs, to tablets, to mobile devices is also very consistent and set up almost identically

In the time I have used 8x8 Virtual Office, the core system has been up and running almost flawlessly though we do have a slight performance degradation from time to time as is expected of cloud software. The one recurring issue for us is that the fax connection is not always functional for outbound messages. We usually have to retry three or four times to get the fax to connect reliably to the destination machine. Once connected, it's smooth sailing.

None of the features that are available slow down the application. The reports (even the ones with hundreds of records) complete very quickly and the web interface as well as the mobile application never struggle to load or complete a task. The analytics will sometimes take some time to reflect the online status of users but it is to be expected due to connection speeds.

I have used their support a few times and found they respond quickly to resolve my problem. They handled every problem I had. If I had questions setting up their service again customer support walked me through. It was easy to add a lines and order new products if need be. Their sales team is very helpful and quick to respond.

Even with the Jabber client, Cisco support is outstanding, with the knowledge and quick response you would expect from them. Their engineers understand their products and our issues are usually addressed quickly and by the same person we originally connect with instead of getting passed to additional people. Follow-up is good too. Their support is thorough.

When looking at phone systems for my office several years ago, I reviewed three different systems that were recommended to me. The 8x8 sales person who made the original presentation was extremely helpful in identifying the things I needed to fit my particular single office situation. She didn't try to sell me more that I needed.

Jabber

Jabber is much more user friendly than Cisco's IP Communicator. The clunky overall UI design of Cisco IP Communicator is not as appealing. The Jabber interface looks just like an instant messenger UI which makes it more user friendly as most of the larger corporations have a separate instant messenger application

We've had periods where our organization has grown a considerable amount and we have had no issues in scaling our communications with 8x8. The number of possible extensions that we can use is far more than we expect to go through in a very long time. The only complaint that I have is a very minor inconvenience for me where I have to download activation codes for each phone. I would prefer to have the phones automatically activated as soon as they are plugged in.

  • After the initial trial I switched to another service that was more friendly towards non-profits in that they offered discounts and other perks.
  • I just wish I would have had other options to choose from initially without having to be auto enrolled, then cancel the service and go out and find an alternative that worked for us.

  • Communication up the organization has increased, as executives or other senior managers are more accessible and willing to communicate over chat, than with face-to-face or phone calls.
