Any business that has workers in multiple locations or workers who are based out for the office for significant periods of time will really benefit from the 8x8 cloud-based system. Your direct line follows you around, but because of the Virtual Attendant, office hours and out of hours can be configured so that you only receive calls when you're "at work."

This is a free service, so it should be compared to free and low cost alerting (e.g. Google Alerts) and PE/VC funding profile (e.g. Crunchbase) services. Owler is well suited for competitive intelligence professionals, named account reps, and marketing professionals tracking company news (web mined company mentions and press releases) and social media (blogs, Video, YouTube). The alerts are high precision and tag for three key events (M&A, Funding, Exec Changes). It is the alerting and social media tools which are the key strength of the service.The company claims two million profiles, but only has 60,000 with full address information. Content includes competitors, user polls, and funding / M&A data. Owler should be viewed as a free complement to other online company research tools, but it lacks the depth to replace subscription services. Missing content includes long business descriptions; financials and discrete sizing data; family tree linkage, and executive profiles (only the CEO is covered)While they offer list building functionality, it is quite thin and non-downloadable. As such, I would not recommend Owler for sales and marketing prospecting at this point.A unique feature is a set of company polls about the direction of the company and CEO performance. Unfortunately, the response rates are often too low to be statistically meaningful.

  • Conference call feature is great. We have created multiple conference bridges, we even have one tied to our virtual attendant.
  • We like the flexibility of the auto attendant and being able to have more than one profile saved that we can change as needed
  • Having Virtual office was especially great when hurricane Irma came through last year and our office had no power, it allowed us to continue to operate from our cell phones without the customer realizing there was anything different.

  • Updates should be more seamless. I've had to downgrade a few times due to incompatibility with sound drivers, etc.
  • I am all for "Fresh, New Interfaces", etc. but one should always have the option to keep the interface one is used to. You should be able to keep the "Classic Interface" without losing functionality or new features - some of us a re "Creatures of Habit"....
  • I feel that in the last few years there has been an effort to make this more of a "Social Media" interface instead of a CRM with telephone dialer capability. For example, to make a call, one has to scroll all the way down to touch the dialer icon (which is only visible if you open the interface fully - dialer should be available "Front and Center" IMMEDIATELY at the TOP of the interface so you can DIAL the phone.....

  • Sometimes the email alerts, industry info, and other stuff Owler sends out is less relevant because it casts a wide net. You ensure you get just about everything this way, but it does mean more filtering/sifting on your part. Really not a big deal though.
  • Like I said before, it does take some manual setup work, though it's not terribly difficult. It's simple to do, but having to update your preferences each time you want to follow another company can get tedious. I imagine that Salesforce integrations and paid versions solve this problem.

We've had an excellent experience with 8x8 Virtual Office. We have downtime very rarely and the service provided by all reps is excellent. The little quirks that I've mentioned as cons are minor inconveniences but I prefer working like that than hosting our own PBX.

The actual 8x8 and user portion work great, the administrative side of things, not so much. Things are not user-friendly as an admin and make it difficult for me to navigate and understand what is going on. Also, in the switch from the previous system to the new one, things didn't switch over correctly, creating more work for myself. Also, there have been issues with accessing for some users.

In the time I have used 8x8 Virtual Office, the core system has been up and running almost flawlessly though we do have a slight performance degradation from time to time as is expected of cloud software. The one recurring issue for us is that the fax connection is not always functional for outbound messages. We usually have to retry three or four times to get the fax to connect reliably to the destination machine. Once connected, it's smooth sailing.

I have yet to see the platform down or running slowly, but there have been multiple instances recently (Q2 2015) when the user links to a news story and Owler gives an Oops message. Users simply click on the story a second time and the story is displayed. This is a nuisance bug.I also have a sense that the system is not processing alerts as quickly as before, but I haven't tracked this closely, so I could be wrong about it.

None of the features that are available slow down the application. The reports (even the ones with hundreds of records) complete very quickly and the web interface as well as the mobile application never struggle to load or complete a task. The analytics will sometimes take some time to reflect the online status of users but it is to be expected due to connection speeds.

Focus on setting up companies that have limited news coverage first. Public companies are well covered and it is easy to track them. Furthermore, the surfeit of news around public companies can crowd out smaller companies with less news. It is smaller companies where you are most likely to see a benefit in their tracking of news, blogs, press releases, and videos.

I selected 8X8 because of the ease of using the VOIP system. Lot's of great features like adding additional phones from another location and to have all the phone answering options. However, the answering options are not user friendly and I normally need to call customer service. The voice quality is normally good.

We opted to use both ZoomInfo and Owler together instead of DiscoverOrg. The reason Owler was chosen was: it's easy of use, streamlined information display, accurate and up to date articles. The free option of Owler works very well also. It gives you access to a huge amount of information in an easily accessible way. It's like Crunchbase on steroids

We've had periods where our organization has grown a considerable amount and we have had no issues in scaling our communications with 8x8. The number of possible extensions that we can use is far more than we expect to go through in a very long time. The only complaint that I have is a very minor inconvenience for me where I have to download activation codes for each phone. I would prefer to have the phones automatically activated as soon as they are plugged in.
