Keep in mind that, as with all hosted voip, charges are by extension. Whereas with a traditional PBX there's no recurring cost to having a bunch of little-used phones around, with voip each of those has a monthly cost. Organization with heavy ring-group configurations may want to look elsewhere due to technical difficulties. In a traditional, straight-forward office environment, 8x8 should be a great solution. It's also great for distributed organizations because the hosted nature puts everyone on the same footing without pbx hardware in multiple locations. 8x8 is also good for flexibility when staff are moving between home and various locations.

Phone.com is a no-brainer. The cost savings over a POTS or in-house PBX system are tremendous. The affordability added on top of the easy to use and deploy features make Phone.com the best choice. Phone.com is well-suited for situations where you need other-than-standard call holding, call routing, and other similar advanced call features.

Cons
8x8 X Series (Formerly Virtual Office)
- It is very difficult to schedule meetings in the future in the smartphone app.
- The smartphone app should add the ability to temporarily disable incoming calls on the smartphone when someone is working in their office.
- It would be nice to have better ways to configure assistants to manage the phone calls of their executives. There were limitations and the workarounds were not ideal. We did come from a Cisco Call Manager system offered much more functionality.

- Phone.com has been excellent with support and I can not think of any areas for improvement with regards to that
- Phone.com could provide more graphical assistance when programming call routing. A visual indication of the flow of a call should be presented and would come in handy when planning out difficult ques/call routes

We've had an excellent experience with 8x8 Virtual Office. We have downtime very rarely and the service provided by all reps is excellent. The little quirks that I've mentioned as cons are minor inconveniences but I prefer working like that than hosting our own PBX.

It's really easy to use. You don't have to be technical at all to figure it out, you just have to be able to read and follow directions otherwise you will not set the system up properly and you'll need to call support. The system has so many checks and balances it's near impossible to screw it up.

In the time I have used 8x8 Virtual Office, the core system has been up and running almost flawlessly though we do have a slight performance degradation from time to time as is expected of cloud software. The one recurring issue for us is that the fax connection is not always functional for outbound messages. We usually have to retry three or four times to get the fax to connect reliably to the destination machine. Once connected, it's smooth sailing.

None of the features that are available slow down the application. The reports (even the ones with hundreds of records) complete very quickly and the web interface as well as the mobile application never struggle to load or complete a task. The analytics will sometimes take some time to reflect the online status of users but it is to be expected due to connection speeds.

The level of support has varied dramatically. The sales/billing department has been responsive when I have called for questions related to this area. However, the technical support has been inconsistent based on the specific rep received. At times they have been unable to diagnose the problem (or user error in setup) when trying to set up ring groups and call sequencing to fit our specific needs.

We previously used the Allworx on-site VOIP system. Having migrated away from Allworx, we are finding the administration of 8x8 very similar, so we came from a background of VOIP administration. Using that experience, helped us transition to 8x8 very easy. Also, not being tied to internal hardware made for a better, more flexible deployment.

We've had periods where our organization has grown a considerable amount and we have had no issues in scaling our communications with 8x8. The number of possible extensions that we can use is far more than we expect to go through in a very long time. The only complaint that I have is a very minor inconvenience for me where I have to download activation codes for each phone. I would prefer to have the phones automatically activated as soon as they are plugged in.

Return on Investment
8x8 X Series (Formerly Virtual Office)
- 8x8 has enabled us to totally streamline our voice calls.
- We now no longer publish our mobile phone numbers as we receive direct line calls straight to the 8x8 mobile app, eliminating the need to give out additional and personal number details.
- One single, fixed price gives us all the calls we need so we can budget precisely.
