Good for letting your investors, employees and others know at a glance how your company is doing. The interface is clean and organized well. I just wish more of the app's functionality was available for testing and implementation. "Coming soon" is not really encouraging when we already have been waiting for a year or more.

Oracle BI Foundation Suite

If the client is using Oracle based tools like the DB, ETL and application, Oracle BI Foundation Suite is one of the best fit for the client.
For e.g. The automobile industry where we had implemented OBI, there was a cube built at the ETL level for calculating aggregations of their financial data. The client was using one another non-oracle tool to extract data from this cube to get their financial data but they were facing a lot of performance issues. We switched this reporting from the non-oracle to Oracle BI suit and the performance came down from 6 min to 40 seconds. That was just amazing what the client was looking for.

Pros

9 Spokes

  • Grouping several apps in one place for easy viewing.
  • Clean dashboard interface that looks uncluttered when viewing several apps at once.
  • Setting up the apps is a breeze when the platform supports them.

Oracle BI Foundation Suite

  • Oracle BI Suite is a comprehensive suite able to handle any size of data as well as complex analytical requirements.
  • With proper training, most end users can be taught to use the front-end in a relatively short period of time.
  • It plays very well with Oracle databases, obviously, so for companies that are an Oracle shop already, it can be implemented as a logical next step for business intelligence.

Cons

9 Spokes

  • Integration with apps that are listed. Some of them are not supported yet and it seems the wait is taking longer than I'd like.
  • iPhone support. It would be nice to have this in the app store. Not available as of 04/25/2018.

Oracle BI Foundation Suite

  • Oracle BI Reporting Administration needs to be simplified for easier Administration and maintenance. Today Admins need to deal at different levels (Enterprise Manager, Weblogic Console, BI Admin Tool) to handle the day to day Admin and Maintenance operations
  • In order to take advantage of the Geo-Spatial (maps) capabilities you need to have Oracle Database at place as the pre-built maps related data is developed and available only in Oracle Database. Organization who doesn't use Oracle Database have to struggle to get this feature work.
  • BI Mobile APP Designer configuration and set up needs to be simplified when upgrading from previous versions

Scalability and rich integration capabilities. In the future, if we go with Hyperion for the Financial Consolidation and planning purposes -BI integration with Hyperion is going to be much simpler as it has native interface connectivity and even integration capabilities with well known CRM products (Siebel) and ERP Products (Oracle EBS, Peoplesoft, SAP) is going to be easy and straight forward.

For me or a staff memeber that uses it frequently, its usability is sufficient. However newbies could have a few issues but find their workflow

Support was helpful in the beginning but no longer needed because I didn't use the software as much. The experience that I did have with support was very friendly but not enough to give a good review. If the support team was called for initial setup, video chat or messenger app was used.

It's fast, efficient and easy to work with. Scheduling could help when planning out a day however overall it's a big plus when rolling out and supporting Oracle.

Alternatives Considered

I actually chose QuickBooks (currently using) and Method (used for a month) before deciding that 9 Spokes is just good for looking at a few apps in one place. I'll keep checking back with them to see if they have improved. I wouldn't be surprised if 9 Spokes improves their product within the next 6-12 months.

The big competitor is always going to be Excel - and for the most part it has many of the same capabilities for graphing, pivot tables, and table displays that are required for reporting. I've also used Crystal Reports and think that for enterprise reporting in a data warehouse environment Oracle is the better choice.

Oracle BI Foundation Suite

  • It is the only way to go if you have external payroll systems such as ADP and you have implemented the Oracle time and labor solution - so pretty good.
  • The reports you need to ensure federal and state level compliance can be easily generated through OBF suite without much investment elsewhere.
  • The businesses that have recently moved on to digital systems but still need on paper reports will find it useful as well.
