Good for letting your investors, employees and others know at a glance how your company is doing. The interface is clean and organized well. I just wish more of the app's functionality was available for testing and implementation. "Coming soon" is not really encouraging when we already have been waiting for a year or more.

If you have multiple sources of data that you need to compile into one to cross report, this is a good tool to do that. The connections of those data sources definitely need an expert, so keep that in mind. Also keep in mind, that if you are starting from square 0 on database queries and reporting, there will be a learning curve. I think once you have the base knowledge though, RJ Metrics is relatively intuitive, has a nice UI, and most importantly, allows us to build the reports that we need with confidence that the information included in the reports is up to date and correct.

Pros

  • Grouping several apps in one place for easy viewing.
  • Clean dashboard interface that looks uncluttered when viewing several apps at once.
  • Setting up the apps is a breeze when the platform supports them.

  • It is relatively easy to manipulate the time period in which you want to see your report. This is important for our business because we are constantly analyzing sales month over month, quarter over quarter, and year over year. RJ makes it easy to toggle between these time ranges on the same report.
  • The visualizers available for reports are what you would expect out of a product like this. You have the ability to view your results in tables and a multitude of charts.
  • The ability to customize dashboards and rearrange reports quickly is great and intuitive!

Cons

  • Integration with apps that are listed. Some of them are not supported yet and it seems the wait is taking longer than I'd like.
  • iPhone support. It would be nice to have this in the app store. Not available as of 04/25/2018.

  • I don't have any database or SQL training, so it took me a little longer than desired to get started up and comfortable with RJ. I wasn't present when we on-boarded with RJ though, which could have been part of the problem, but you definitely need a very basic level of query language and formula writing knowledge to hit the ground running and use this tool to its full capability.
  • RJ gives you the ability to set email updates on whichever reports you choose. I wish that these reports were a little more customizable to give only the pertinent information from a large report to the parties who need it. IE, customize the view for marketing vs. design but all based on the same report.
  • It would be helpful to get an email from RJ with tips and tricks (short videos or blogs) to be able to continue to learn more about this tool.

Support

Support was helpful in the beginning but no longer needed because I didn't use the software as much. The experience that I did have with support was very friendly but not enough to give a good review. If the support team was called for initial setup, video chat or messenger app was used.

Alternatives Considered

I actually chose QuickBooks (currently using) and Method (used for a month) before deciding that 9 Spokes is just good for looking at a few apps in one place. I'll keep checking back with them to see if they have improved. I wouldn't be surprised if 9 Spokes improves their product within the next 6-12 months.

Collaboration and Sharing

Access control capabilities are OK. Ease of sharing is great because the app design is made special for that purpose. I haven't dove that far into the app enough to generate reports. Formatting is very flexible because 9 Spokes allows the user to customize how the info is displayed. Security or lack thereof is not a factor for me so I am unable to give feedback on security.

It is very easy to set access per report and to share a view or edit access with the necessary parties. Again, I do wish that the email updates of reports were a little more customizable so that you can share relevant information with people who do not need to be involved in the report creating in RJ. In order to do this, you have to just build out each individual report for each party, instead of picking and choosing the information you would like to send from one large report. Not unworkable, just takes more time than ideal.

Data Integration

I gave 9 Spokes a five because the range of data sources is minimal. Ease of merging data from disparate sources is pretty good for the ones they do support. I just want to have more apps available for arranging on their nice looking interface. Perhaps next year my review for 9 Spokes will be better than 5

There is a definite lag in our connection between Google Analytics and RJ Metrics which can sometimes be 2-3 days. Most of our other connections update once per day. The initial connection was done by a database expert that we had to hire and so everything went fine there, but we did have to contract that out since we didn't have anyone internally with the knowledge. Some sources are harder to connect than others because of the structure of their databases; we have had particularly hard times with our inventory systems (Ship Hero and NetSuite).
