Good for letting your investors, employees and others know at a glance how your company is doing. The interface is clean and organized well. I just wish more of the app's functionality was available for testing and implementation. "Coming soon" is not really encouraging when we already have been waiting for a year or more.

ThoughtSpot is well suited for ad-hoc data searches, to derive real-time metrics, to create personalized pinboards, to explore data that you haven't thought in the past exists.ThoughtSpot is not the right tool if you are used to canned reporting, i.e. BOXI or Tableau.

Pros

9 Spokes

  • Grouping several apps in one place for easy viewing.
  • Clean dashboard interface that looks uncluttered when viewing several apps at once.
  • Setting up the apps is a breeze when the platform supports them.

  • Natural language search is a really neat feature which allows anyone with the business context to search for insights and then create pin boards for reference.
  • SpotIQ is fantastic feature which can survey, crunch, and analyze vast amounts of data, run models, and provide automated insights.

Cons

9 Spokes

  • Integration with apps that are listed. Some of them are not supported yet and it seems the wait is taking longer than I'd like.
  • iPhone support. It would be nice to have this in the app store. Not available as of 04/25/2018.

  • Regression testing for all existing functionality to ensure smooth upgrade to existing worksheets, dashboards, etc., that have been created on prior versions.
  • Ability for modifications to underlying source tables to propagate changes throughout all worksheets built on top of source data. Currently if you have to modify a relationship field or primary key definitions, you have to recreate everything sitting on top of that source which as time goes on it makes it very problematic to address relationship issues that have been uncovered over time.

We have had success with the initial use cases and there are more use cases that can receive return on investment. I don't give it a 10 because other products like Tableau are building functionality that may start to compete in the coming years.

Since coming to the ThoughtSpot conference I have seen how other companies use it. I see it is very powerful.I see that when the data is organized as a transactional database, it is possible to get very quick responses and do searches of the database for certain patterns very easily and quickly.

Support was helpful in the beginning but no longer needed because I didn't use the software as much. The experience that I did have with support was very friendly but not enough to give a good review. If the support team was called for initial setup, video chat or messenger app was used.

Alternatives Considered

I actually chose QuickBooks (currently using) and Method (used for a month) before deciding that 9 Spokes is just good for looking at a few apps in one place. I'll keep checking back with them to see if they have improved. I wouldn't be surprised if 9 Spokes improves their product within the next 6-12 months.

ThoughtSpot is just as good at creating the initial graphic for the end user, it might even be better because the user really does not need much technical knowledge in order to create a basic graphic. Currently, ThoughtSpot cannot yet compete with the other tools when it comes to designing a fully interactive dashboard or with customization of graphics.
