I recommend it to all. IT is a very useful tool that helps to perform tests of all kinds quickly, and obtains reliable results with high accuracy. We all have different needs, but for mine it is perfectly suited. However, it requires clear requirements before using the tool.

UserTesting

UserTesting is well suited for
  • Getting user feedback on a concept / topic when the intended users are a generic, easy-to-come by persona (e.g., homeowners)
  • Usability testing
  • Preference testing
  • Customer journey mapping / user requirements gathering
UserTesting is less appropriate / not as well-suited for:
  • Recruiting very specific types of people or conducting testing where background knowledge is key (e.g., architects, surgeons, etc.)
  • Conducting tests where more than 10 people are needed to reach significance (e.g., information architecture, surveys, etc.)
  • Tests with login credentials or checkout processes where each participant will need an (you can do these, but they can be cumbersome)

Pros

99tests

  • It is very easy to use and adapt, allowing the QA to do the tests faster and detect errors in a timely manner.
  • It has helped us decrease development time on new applications, since we used to spend a lot time solving errors after the launch of the application.
  • It has helped us a lot in our testing processes, since the tool contains exploratory tests with which critical errors can be detected in an efficient and fast way. In turn, we have good follow-up on our products, thanks to the fact that the tool allows us to document the commercial flows more critically and automate them.

UserTesting

  • UserTesting enables collection of qualitative data on what user experience design drives higher engagement and conversions and which site layout does poorly on engaging the customers of an e-commerce website or visitors to a website
  • UserTesting allows follow-up with participants who were part of a UX design test in-case their video recording of the testing session didn't articulate the test findings clearly due to technical issues.
  • UserTesting helps determine content strategy around new products by testing users who may have used those products already when they were customers of another similar business. So, we can implement engaging content which results in high sales.

Cons

99tests

  • The quality of the testers should be better, so that all of them produce useful, excellent results, and not just some of them.
  • The product could be improved with a more friendly interface and more tutorials to allow new users who do not have any kind of experience to easily adapt.
  • It could also improve customer service.

UserTesting

  • Our needs require individual workspaces for each business line, but I can't share clips between them. If a customer provides insight about another business line or the brand overall, I can't include that clip across workspaces.
  • I'd like to see the product expand into upstream design/research process, such as journey maps or assumptive personas.

We're currently using UserTesting on a pay-as-you-go format where we purchase credits when we get low and use them fluidly to run tests. This format works great for us since our testing cadence waxes and wanes through the phases of any given project. With this low barrier to us using the service, where we can use it as much or as little as we like, it's a no brainer that we would keep buying credits as they come up.

The overall usability is good for UserTesting. We have been able to get surveys up and running with minimal training and contacting customer support. The dashboard is a bit dated for our taste, but still useful. The website is intuitive to use and easy to understand. The feedback we receive is delivered in a manner that helps us greatly.

Overall, the support is very prompt and helpful! I've had to contact them a decent amount for various minor issues and they're always really quick to get back to me. Definitely would and do recommend the support team to anyone.

From a technical perspective, the implementation was extremely smooth. Most of the change management / implementation hurdles were clearing use of the tool through our various security, legal, and information privacy teams. Once these concerns were addressed (UserTesting.com was very helpful in providing all the needed documentation), the implementation process was very simple and we were able to get going right away.

I find 99test more useful, since it has a phone support feature that many other applications do not have, and also allows testing in Windows Phone app. Overall, it is very useful for small businesses. Also, it's price is very low, which makes it a very competitive application because it delivers equally reliable and useful results quickly, for less cost.

UserTesting

We like UserTesting's larger panel which helps us execute studies more quickly. We've also used it before we brought in tools for session replay and expanded QA teams to constantly test and monitor beta and GA releases to track stability. It's also great for running brand blind true intent studies.

Return on Investment

99tests

  • Excellent impact since it allows precise tests before launching the applications, thus preventing capital losses.
  • It helped us to carry a complete documentation of the tests thus reducing times.
  • It reduced the problems that the developers of the organization had because the tests make sure that the new functions work excellently and the old functions do not get corrupted.

UserTesting

  • Increased conversion rates.
  • Cost savings in the fact that we're getting feedback along the way instead of building the wrong product for our users.
  • One of our objectives is to talk to users, so this is an easy and accessible way to do that.
