Likelihood to Recommend

VMware vSphere on IBM Cloud

I believe IBM Cloud is well suited for individuals who know their product but not so much for cloud strategy. IBM helps us accelerate and plan the cloud journey and allows us to scale. I wouldn't recommend the IBM Cloud if you know how to scale and distribute the servers world wide.

Red Hat Virtualization (RHV)

I believe it's an excellent solution for any scenario which requires virtualization. The only scenario where it might not be the best solution would be in building out a cloud infrastructure - you could certainly integrate RHEV for something like that but I think that either OpenStack or CloudStack might be a better solution for building cloud environments.

Usability

VMware vSphere on IBM Cloud

VMware vSphere on IBM Cloud 8.2
Based on 3 answers
It is easy to use and setting it up is simple. The only con is that the pricing is a little bit high as well as documentation is a little low; so we had to do some personal learning to be able to fully utilize the product, or hop on the phone with someone.

Alternatives Considered

VMware vSphere on IBM Cloud

We selected VMware over Azure due to the fact that it was already familiar and still offered the same cloud capabilities that Azure would have gained us. This allowed us to keep using the same interface and not have to relearn everything from start to finish with a new product.

Red Hat Virtualization (RHV)

We use them both, as one is not better than the other at all facets required. There is still a need to use both products, as we have not fully switched to RHEV due to vSphere still having an edge over them with edits available to the systems while they are operational or they are suspended. Template importation is still better in vSphere.

Return on Investment

VMware vSphere on IBM Cloud

  • It has a positive impact on the cost required to maintain our vSphere environment by allowing us to get rid of our vsphere hardware and not worry about maintenance either.
  • There have been very few negatives, but one would definitely be the open-ended cost associated with cloud products in general.

Red Hat Virtualization (RHV)

  • RHEV has provided a positive ROI as our customers are not experiencing as many outages during maintenances.
  • We have not experienced any catastrophic failures as a result of vsphere losing connection to the ntp.
  • There has been a level of stability in our environment that was not previously experienced with our previous vendor.
