A2Z

Well suited for sessions and events information with the exception of large white space areas when viewed. Depending on how your organization is set up the only "less appropriate" area for us would be the actual accounting side, but that is because our accounting department prefers to maintain invoices, etc out of their own system. However, the invoices provided by A2Z does aid them when the are reconciling to their own system

Eventbrite

Eventbrite will really help you if you need to host a single event, or a series of events. In fact, it might be appropriate for something as simple as a family or school reunion where you want to easily build a landing page and collect payment. Eventbrite is also sufficient for B2B marketing teams and large events. Eventbrite will do better on the more simple end of the event spectrum. For a business with hundreds of events and complex integration needs, it might not provide all that you want

Pros

  • Tracking from year to year - history provided on the Exhibit side is huge and helps when you have new people working within the platform.
  • Ability to replicate certain areas from year to year which is a huge timesaver.
  • Templates! Templates are huge timesavers, but you still have the ability to brand them and change them if needed.

  • Eventbrite is a well-known and trusted place for purchasing tickets. That trust helps us sell tickets. It also eliminates the need for integrating some other payment system into a webpage, which would be the alternative.
  • Eventbrite makes sending invitations easy. Upload contacts and using contacts from a previous event is very straight-forward. Building emails is simple, since there are a couple of prebuilt templates.
  • Discount codes and strategic pricing structures are a significant part of our marketing for events. Eventbrite makes it easy to offer discount codes. We also create several ticket types that include multi-ticket discounts, early-bird type specials and more. Each of which help us reach our audience at the right time with the right price.

Cons

  • Coming from software where I had a huge amount of access to the "backend", it would be nice to be able to manipulate areas of the Exhibit Floorplan a little easier with regard to items like tables, chairs, stages, etc. Maybe add some icons that could be pasted into the floorplan for faster success?
  • The agenda within A2Z does not give you the ability to host on your own conference site.
  • The agenda view is sometimes perceived as being too long, there's a lot of extra "white space".

  • While integration with Facebook is fairly seamless, once you have uploaded the event description to Facebook, any additional revisions must be made on both Eventbrite and Facebook individually. It's not a live integration.
  • My initial on boarding was extended by needing to seek information through various blogs, outside users and exploration through the site. More comprehensive training for first timers to the site would be welcome.
  • Integration with the manager calendar would help the marketing timeline. It's helpful to get email reminders, but would be fabulous if milestones could be dropped in my calendar.

So easy to setup and build an event, especially for someone like me with limited programming experience.

Alternatives Considered

I've used Map Your Show, as well as ExpoCad. Each has their own redeeming qualities, and the success of A2Z is also based on the support you receive from the provider. Customer Support and being assigned to one support team player from A2Z has been huge and we have greatly appreciated it.

I think that they are both similar in the services that they offer, but Eventbrite is widely known and because of its popularity it is a chosen favorite. Eventbrite is easier so I believe people are just more comfortable using it. Everyone has heard of Eventbrite and it has a better than average satisfactory rating among its users.

Return on Investment

  • Positive - it provides one place from which primary players in the conference could pull information. A2Z maintains consistency and lowers the discrepancy issue when everyone tries to keep their own little database.
  • Positive - Time Saver.
  • No negative that I can recall.
