AB Tasty

AB Tasty is well suited for startups that don't have a dedicated resource for testing; it is also well suited for companies using single page applications. It pleases designers, front-end developers, software engineers and the product manager (me) on our team.

Pros

AB Tasty

  • Tests are very easy to set up with the platform, or using the widget.
  • AB Tasty's team are very open to propositions of evolutions for the tool.
  • Reading and analyzing the results of the tests is quite simple and intuitive.
  • The results are also easy to share with the people in the company who might find them useful.

Episerver Digital Commerce

  • Web content management -- the interface is drag and drop and makes it very easy for business users to create product pages.
  • In site search with Episerver Find -- it is easy to promote attributes and make quick tweaks to fine-tune results.
  • Integrate with other systems -- we have integrated with our ERP, our product information management system, our digital asset management system and our marketing automation system to take advantage of investments we have already made in content and customer data.

Cons

AB Tasty

  • Maybe some editor functionalities could be directly accessible from the homepage, like the amount of traffic you give to a test.
  • The functionality that allows you to point the whole traffic through a variation while keeping the measure of results is not that easy to set up compared to the editor tool. It could be even more intuitive by copying the set up of the initial test.
  • Reports loading can sometimes be quite long when we have a lot of traffic (that point has been improved but is not yet perfect).

Episerver Digital Commerce

  • The UI is slowly being rebuilt into the main Episerver UI - there are still many features that require use of the old Commerce Manager UI which feels very outdated and is a poor UX.
  • Some confusing API's that allow developers to get confused - some API's are oddly split up which leads to confusion of what other functions might exist.

The CMS has clearly had time to evolve as a tool but the digital commerce aspect is outdated and needs to be reviewed as it is not intuitive to the admins using it.

Fully understand what is OOTB feature of the platform before proceeding to develop. Then implement a customization of key features once you can prove they are working as OOTB to make them more user friendly and productive for the business. Eg pre order and e gift card

Alternatives Considered

AB Tasty

We selected AB Tasty after using Google Analytics because setting up tests on Google's free test was not as easy and the results were not very precise. We had illogical results due to the way tests were set up on the tool so we chose a more reliable tool with flexibility for the marketing team. Our website technical architecture can sometimes be complex and AB Tasty was the only tool with a french support team that allowed us to set up the tests we needed

Episerver Digital Commerce

Coming from a Software Engineering background, Episerver was the preferred system as it was an attractive platform from a developer's point of view. Today, I consult solely on Episerver solutions and still prefer the platform for multiple reasons (some already covered earlier in this questionnaire).

Return on Investment

AB Tasty

  • Improvement on conversion rates from minor site improvements through to full page redesigns.
  • Test and deploy new content prior to launch to evaluate performance.
  • Deploy personalised content to enhance the user journey.

Episerver Digital Commerce

  • Our rocky implementation was very costly to our organization
  • The untestable nature of epiCommerce has cost us a lot in development time and fragile integrations
  • The difficult database schema has cost us a great deal of development time for maintenance and new feature development
