AbacusLaw

AbacusLaw allows the whole law firm to be on the same page with access to a community calendar, billing, etc. It is a bit of a bummer that you need to put significant time into training to understand how to use AbacusLaw fully and get the most out of it. I wish there were quicker and easier ways to train and let people know about new additions

ALB Legal Software

The integration with Microsoft Office has been very good. ALB Legal Software can accept add-ins and integrate with Microsoft Office, and Outlook and links directly back to ALB. The auto-email filing also helps to make sure responses are tracked when away from the firm or office. Managing documents digitally has been very useful as well. Everything is stored in one place which adheres to compliance and makes things easier. The user interface and user experience on some dashboards and some faces of the mobile functionality need to be improved.

ALB Legal Software

  • Document storage and retrieval seem to work well. Loading documents, archiving them, and retrieving them, etc.
  • Time recording is also a useful feature as well as a little more intuitive than you'd expect.
  • Integrating legal accounting has been a great feature as well.

Cons

AbacusLaw

  • Explaining new products or services in a way that is quick and easy to understand

ALB Legal Software

  • At times the dashboard and User Experience and User Interface do not follow a logical pathway. It can be confusing at times, but not extremely detrimental.
  • The client portal has also experienced some issues with the User interface and user experience functions as well.

The usability is slightly above average. The all-in-one approach has been great and useful, but some of the functionality and user experience and user interface issues can affect usability. Some might be nitpicky, but not following logical pathways or ones that may pose issues for those that have disabilities can really create issues.

The support is generally good and relatively quick BUT when there is a new product or something they want you to buy, I have felt a bit harassed at that point by sales but when I have an issue I don't feel like support jumps on it as quick.

The support, if we are talking about technical support with the product itself when issues arise, is average. It's not terrible, but not great either. It is average and what you might expect. Some issues are delayed in getting responses and we constantly have to be upgrading to higher tiers or developers. Some responses are quick though. Response time could be improved, much like other organizations.

Alternatives Considered

AbacusLaw

We have just used AbacusLaw but have looked into other similar products such as Clio and have been disappointed in what they offer compared to AbacusLaw.

ALB Legal Software

ALB Legal Software is a more efficient product than MyCase and PracticePanther mostly for the integration it allows and the "all in one" approach that it takes. It takes several different areas and functions of legal practice and puts in one platform eliminating the need to leverage 2-3 platforms sometimes i.e. timekeeping, document management, mobile access, client portal, etc. Keeping it under one roof helps.

Return on Investment

AbacusLaw

  • We have been using Abacus (and previously Amicus) for so long it is hard to tell.

ALB Legal Software

  • Overall it has had a positive ROI, mostly in terms of reducing time spent searching for documents and inaccurate timekeeping. It's made things more exact and precise. These all add up to reduced waste in time and money.
  • As mentioned, some dashboards are not as intuitive as you'd expect so some time can be wasted on navigating screens and filters.
