Abstract

  • Large teams with dedicated design operations support
  • UX managers that want a facilitated workflow for their teams
  • Disciplined teams of individual contributors that want to adopt a process in their UI workflow
  • Cross-discipline teams that want a central collaboration space for reviewing and critiquing UI artifacts
  • If your files are named "FOR-REALS_FINAL_FINAL_FINAL_Super-Important-Project (copy).sketch"
  • If you're managing multiple pattern libraries

Huddle

If you must simultaneously edit documents on a project, Huddle is not a good option. Also, if your team is not technically savvy, the learning curve can be challenging. Finally, if you need hundreds or thousands of people working on a project, Huddle might not be the right choice. I think it is better for teams under 100 people.

Pros

Abstract

  • Versioning for desginers
  • Collaboration between team members

Huddle

  • Usability is excellent.
  • Makes it easy to track who has worked on what.
  • Makes older versions of your files available.
  • Sharing documents is super simple.

Cons

Abstract

  • Asset exports are not as great as Zeplin and others.
  • Filtering within files.

Huddle

  • The desktop app is occasionally unreliable and it is never easy to get to the bottom of it with the tech support people...
  • Tasks are virtually useless as they have no context. We want tasks to be against documents so we can make our workflow more formal but they are not, so we don't use them. A reimplementation of to do and calendar facilities with files/documents as the context would make a huge difference to us.
  • The Huddle Office plugins are a great idea, but they cause us far too many Word and Excel crashes so we have to turn them off.

Usability

Abstract

Abstract 7.0
Based on 1 answer
Abstract has a difficult learning curve. If a feature-branch workflow is new to you, then it will take some getting used to. They make a lot of updates to the interface and these feature releases get ahead of their documentation. They rely heavily on an excellent customer support team and are present on various Slack channels to help design professionals with issues.

Support Rating

Abstract

Abstract 8.3
Based on 5 answers
Abstract by nature is complex and has to respond to whatever changes in Sketch. So there are frequent issues. Support can be slow to respond and are not always helpful, but they are quick to find and patch the bugs. Overall, it's not the best support, but it hasn't been detrimental.

I purchased and administer Abstract. It was requested by our design department who evaluated it.

Huddle

Huddle is quite different from Tibbr. They serve different purposes for the most part. However, they both allow colleagues to improve their communication with one another, minimize email inbox clutter, and improve processes. We use both of these in our organization. Huddle has allowed us to store documents, share communication and generally work in the cloud.

Return on Investment

Abstract

  • Single source of truth for the team.
  • Could quickly get expensive with corporate accounts.

Huddle

  • This has made it a lot easier for remote workers to access important documents without needing to use the VPN at home (which does not always work).
  • It clearly shows who updated the last document and when so it is clear who you need to ask if you have questions or something.
  • We have used it in client settings, so this saves money as we do not need to request a separate client laptop or VPN token.
