Accelo

Pretty good as a basic CRM, decent as a support desk. Tries to do a lot, but doesn't excel at any one thing. Reasonably priced, though, and can be a component in a larger setup.

Glip

Being a new entrant (in other words, a Challenger to more established players), Glip should try harder to delight users. I feel that it covers well all the basic use cases, but so do similar tools that are already proven and validated. The switching cost for this type of communication platform is big.

Pros

  • Tracking customer interactions. Nice integration with G Suite, could be a lot better if they acknowledged that contacts may actually have more than one email address.
  • Support Ticket system is integrated, so we can view support history and other email correspondence easily. It's cheaper that Zendesk.
  • Support is reasonably good, usually prompt and responsive.
  • Constant development - lots of updates, just not often to areas that we use.

  • The chat functionality of Glip is fantastic, and even their mobile app is really good. The software is truly platform-agnostic. My team uses Mac, Windows and Chrome OS as well as iOS and Android.
  • The task functionality is well-designed and intuitive. It's very helpful to have access to tasks regardless of device or location, and the ability to create tasks from messages is surprisingly handy.
  • The notes functionality is a great way to store information that the whole team or just a few members need access to. We also use it for mark-up occasionally, since it has the ability to leave comments pinned to a location on the document or image.
  • We have the option of inviting clients to join Glip. This isn't something my team uses at this point, but it's an option.

Cons

  • Cumbersome processes - feels like tasks take longer than they should.
  • We gave up on the Projects module, it was rather unintuitive. Switched to JIRA, which integrates with the Support module of Accelo.
  • Each email address requires a new contact. If one person uses multiple email addresses to contact you, that info will have to be spread across multiple contacts.

  • More ways to react to a message than just a "like".
  • There were some glitches (profile pictures that were changed but didn't take effect, messages getting sent repeatedly, etc) that could be resolved.

Very likely we will renew unless the closest competitor lowers its price tiers.

Mobile UI is not as pleasant as others, it looks washed out and that makes it seem like it lacks some features.

Alternatives Considered

Accelo doesn't really exceed any competitors in any one area of their product, but in 2015 when we made the move this was the best option that included all the tools we wanted. However, user adoption was low in some areas due to the UI, so we scaled back Accelo and added other tools.

We moved from Skype to Glip primarily because we went with Ring Central for our phones, and Glip is included and integrates with Ring Central. It also adds far more funcationality than Skype in one package

Return on Investment

  • It substantially reduced the number of systems we use to run our business.
  • It reduced the need to train our staff on a variety of platforms.
  • It gave us the ability to have a client-facing portal that directly integrates with our backend systems.

  • Have not been using Glip long enough to know if it is having a significant impact on our business objectives, but employees love using it
