Accelo

Pretty good as a basic CRM, decent as a support desk. Tries to do a lot, but doesn't excel at any one thing. Reasonably priced, though, and can be a component in a larger setup.

Monday is well suited to groups or teams that work on tasks with minimal detail if you just need to give updates on projects quickly. This is especially true if you need more reporting and information on tasks, you may want to look elsewhere. This is not to say it cannot be used as a main project management tool, because it can. However, we have found that we get more out of our teams by using other tools in tandem with Monday.

Pros

Accelo

  • Tracking customer interactions. Nice integration with G Suite, could be a lot better if they acknowledged that contacts may actually have more than one email address.
  • Support Ticket system is integrated, so we can view support history and other email correspondence easily. It's cheaper that Zendesk.
  • Support is reasonably good, usually prompt and responsive.
  • Constant development - lots of updates, just not often to areas that we use.

monday.com

  • Simple and clean overview.
  • Ability to connect files and threads to specific tasks.
  • Updates on email once something happens with our team board (although this can be annoying when you are engaged in a lot of different tasks).
  • Quick knowledge of who is in charge of what.
  • Simple creation and delegation of tasks (move to done etc.).

Cons

Accelo

  • Cumbersome processes - feels like tasks take longer than they should.
  • We gave up on the Projects module, it was rather unintuitive. Switched to JIRA, which integrates with the Support module of Accelo.
  • Each email address requires a new contact. If one person uses multiple email addresses to contact you, that info will have to be spread across multiple contacts.

  • I wish there was the option to create your own label color options beyond the colors given.
  • The mobile app needs to be re-worked with more intentionality. Right now it functions the same as the desktop, but the user interface should change based on the mobile experience. Long horizontal layouts are not conducive to a mobile screen.

If you have a basic understanding of the terms and exist in a project management field it will be very intuitive and easy for you to pick it up and begin setting up workflows and tasks. Someone who doesn't have familiarity with how to plan a project may be confused on how it is intended to be setup.

We signed up for the accounts. Created the accounts. Ran the trial version and tested it live while we were running multiple projects and found that it was fitting our needs perfectly. When the trial ended and we were asked to purchase the full version, we did. We have found other ways to use it and it's a breeze.

Alternatives Considered

Accelo

Accelo doesn't really exceed any competitors in any one area of their product, but in 2015 when we made the move this was the best option that included all the tools we wanted. However, user adoption was low in some areas due to the UI, so we scaled back Accelo and added other tools.

Dapulse is really nice to look at and can be customized well. It seems to focus on representing work and information which makes it a unique tool and eliminates alot of the complexity of other tools out there

Return on Investment

Accelo

  • It substantially reduced the number of systems we use to run our business.
  • It reduced the need to train our staff on a variety of platforms.
  • It gave us the ability to have a client-facing portal that directly integrates with our backend systems.
