Pretty good as a basic CRM, decent as a support desk. Tries to do a lot, but doesn't excel at any one thing. Reasonably priced, though, and can be a component in a larger setup.

Projector PSA

We think Projector PSA is a great tool to track and manage people in a professional service environment like management consulting. This system is easy to set up, easy to understand and should easily suit the needs of smaller and medium sized firms. It may be less appropriate for firms that rely very heavily on project management through another system (like MS Project) or firms that rely very heavily on a sales pipeline tracking system. While still very much possible to use, you would (I believe) have to do some re-keying between systems

Pros

Accelo

  • Tracking customer interactions. Nice integration with G Suite, could be a lot better if they acknowledged that contacts may actually have more than one email address.
  • Support Ticket system is integrated, so we can view support history and other email correspondence easily. It's cheaper that Zendesk.
  • Support is reasonably good, usually prompt and responsive.
  • Constant development - lots of updates, just not often to areas that we use.

  • Very easy to use, intuitive, efficient web portal for users to put in time and expenses. In our previous system, the UI was very painful to use - this one requires almost no training.
  • Very flexible configuration that allows use in a 'simple' way through to a 'complex' way. This is helpful for us to use it in a way that makes sense for our organization and to turn on specific features as we roll them out.
  • The reporting module (and the data model underneath) is very powerful. We have managed to create our own reports very easily, that have been very useful to us and met our objectives.

  • The client portal needs to be improved. It does not have the same user interface as we have within Accelo and we get a lot of client complaints about it.
  • It needs more executive-style reporting and the ability to create your own reports and filters.
  • It needs to be faster. With all of the things Accelo is doing to give you all the data, it is kind of slow compared to other systems in the browser.

  • One challenge has been the user interface of the management portal, but that is currently being overhauled. The new design is being rolled out incrementally, and so far we've been very impressed with it, both visually and functionally!
  • Projector is first and foremost a project management tool. Because of this, we had to come up with some workarounds for customized accounting tasks we needed that were not part of the native Projector logic, but we were able to get what we need done.
  • One thing we did have with our previous PSA tool and that isn't available in Projector is an integration with MS Outlook calendar. That would be a great feature for our team.

We have been using this tool for a year now and find our use of it continually evolves and broadens. We are also very excited about the overhaul that's under way and feel many of the improvements being put in place will help make us that much more effective and efficient. The Projector team is also very responsive and collaborative in terms of user feedback and improvement suggestions, which helps us know they will work hard to help us get what we need out of the tool.

Accelo

Accelo doesn't really exceed any competitors in any one area of their product, but in 2015 when we made the move this was the best option that included all the tools we wanted. However, user adoption was low in some areas due to the UI, so we scaled back Accelo and added other tools.

Projector PSA provided a better value and much smaller initial commitment. The implementation process required minimal professional services. Projector PSA also had a strong data security model to limit visibility appropriately to personnel using the system

  • It substantially reduced the number of systems we use to run our business.
  • It reduced the need to train our staff on a variety of platforms.
  • It gave us the ability to have a client-facing portal that directly integrates with our backend systems.

Projector PSA

  • Efficiency is definitely a benefit. While we do have to put in some effort into set up and maintenance of projects, we were able to eliminate the use of external timelines and WBS documents. Now we can grab them right out of Projector to send to the client, push into MS Project or just have our team access.
  • Resource allocation is more detailed and efficient and allows us to grow and be able to manage a larger group of resources with a wider range of skill-sets.
  • We are able to more accurately track and analyze internal R&D efforts and projects.
