Pretty good as a basic CRM, decent as a support desk. Tries to do a lot, but doesn't excel at any one thing. Reasonably priced, though, and can be a component in a larger setup.

Trello

Trello is really suited well for just about anything thanks to its open framework. We've found great success with it as a PM tool but I've also used it personally to plan a vacation (different columns for different places being visited, a card for each day that has an itinerary, etc.) and keep track of my different life roles and goals. The only thing it might not be well suited for is if you're looking for a tool that is going to do anything in an automated fashion. Trello is more of a manual thing (outside of its integrations) so if you're looking for automation you may need to look harder at the tool than you would if you're just looking for a simple tool.

Pros

  • Tracking customer interactions. Nice integration with G Suite, could be a lot better if they acknowledged that contacts may actually have more than one email address.
  • Support Ticket system is integrated, so we can view support history and other email correspondence easily. It's cheaper that Zendesk.
  • Support is reasonably good, usually prompt and responsive.
  • Constant development - lots of updates, just not often to areas that we use.

  • The simplicity of the interface. Really simple and easy understanding. It is just a board with sticking cards and lists on a first look.
  • Free usage. Small just opened companies could save money on managing and tracking stuff but with less functionality.
  • It works on all common platforms. There are apps for iphone and android, web, even Slack.
  • It is easy to choose on what basis to organize lists and cards on the boards. In fact, the program is universal and suitable for both personal purposes and for business.

Cons

  • Cumbersome processes - feels like tasks take longer than they should.
  • We gave up on the Projects module, it was rather unintuitive. Switched to JIRA, which integrates with the Support module of Accelo.
  • Each email address requires a new contact. If one person uses multiple email addresses to contact you, that info will have to be spread across multiple contacts.

  • On small screens Trello becomes not so convenient.
  • It is a bit difficult to add automation, repetition and rapid tasks to implement.
  • I suppose Trello could be not enough for really large companies.

I'm not in charge of such a decision, but I am sure that we will continue to use Trello for the same purposes we have in the past.

It is simple to use to begin with, and very scalable but could do with some design improvements and additional features to make it the user friendly and usable level it could be potentially

For our small business, getting a few of us started well on Trello was the key, I think. As long as a couple of us were really comfortable with the interface, we could lead others and help them with any questions. From now on, anyone who works with us just naturally uses Trello for information sharing - it's just part of what we do.

Alternatives Considered

Accelo doesn't really exceed any competitors in any one area of their product, but in 2015 when we made the move this was the best option that included all the tools we wanted. However, user adoption was low in some areas due to the UI, so we scaled back Accelo and added other tools.

Trello is very intuitive, with boards, lists and cards. In a few minutes you move in your taste in Trello, unlike Asana which is much more difficult to understand. Trello is much faster than Asana since it provides keyboard shortcuts. With the shortcuts of your single task, your productivity is triggered and tasks such as search tables, create boards, filter by labels, etc. can be done by just pressing a key. Trello also performs constant updates. It has many more integrations with third parties than Asana. The famous treble power ups do not have Asana, Trello also allows assigning a task to more than one person.

Return on Investment

  • Allows our growing team to have more client information and context accessible during client interactions.

  • Trello has helped us getting all the important tasks under one platform which is easy to follow for all the stake holders.
