Accelo

Accelo is a system that can do it all. It's extremely sophisticated. Depending on the sophistication of your organization, or specifically the abilities of the people you put in charge of the implementation, it can almost be too sophisticated. It all just depends on your situation. The more you use it, the more data you give it, the more you'll be able to see and do. It's incredibly powerful. But it's definitely not a tool that would be appropriate for smaller boutique type organizations that have only basic needs.

NetSuite ERP

NetSuite is well suited for a small to midsize company with remote workers. It may be more expensive than other ERP systems that can be run on-prem so if you have centralized locations and servers to run an ERP may not be the best choice. It is well suited if you have some experts to support it. If you are under tight budget constraints then it may not be the right product as licensing and support are expensive, not to mention you will have to reach out to consultants if you don't have a NetSuite admin in-house.

  • NetSuite OneWorld allows a business to automate its intercompany elimination processes at month's end. If set up and maintained correctly, the system can fully automate this process, which for many businesses involves a lot of manual work (in Excel!)
  • NetSuite's audit trail throughout the system is outstanding, tracking changes by user, change type, date/time. You can easily see who made which edits to the database and when. This is often lost or non-existent in other platforms.
  • NetSuite is highly customizable to your business' requirements. Through specific modules, SuiteFlow and SuiteScript, the possibilities are almost endless, but what is great about NetSuite is that the standard functionality is suitable for many businesses.

  • Cumbersome processes - feels like tasks take longer than they should.
  • We gave up on the Projects module, it was rather unintuitive. Switched to JIRA, which integrates with the Support module of Accelo.
  • Each email address requires a new contact. If one person uses multiple email addresses to contact you, that info will have to be spread across multiple contacts.

  • Commissions. Our company's commissions are very complex and while NetSuite can handle most of them, there is still lots of manual adjustments and work that we need to do before paying. With that said, some of these issues may be with our setup or to the fact that we keep changing our incentive plans.
  • Reporting. While you can design P&L and other reports in NetSuite, I've found it less intuitive and more difficult than it seems like it should be. Some of this is because of how the data is stored in the background. For example, sometimes the data you want in the same report comes from two different modules and in order to pull the data into one report, we need to run separate reports and then do lookups in Excel. This is a common theme in relational databases and not specific to NetSuite.

I am not the decision maker for this but I believe our company will be sticking with NetSuite for the long term. A CRM like this is a big investment and not something you move away from quickly and without a lot of planning. There is a lot of data involved and importing that into a new system is no easy task.

Through creation of various dashboards and KPIs the user does not really need to get very technically involved. They simply need to understand how to fill out a form, and through proper workflow creations they can be alerted when it is time to provide the necessary information or perform a necessary action to complete the next phase of the business process.

Most of the time the performance is very good. Pages load in a few seconds; financial reports take less than 5 seconds; basic searches take a few seconds. But performance can be sporadic throughout the day and cause the run time to triple.

From the beginning the Accelo team has been very invested in ensuring our success and overall happiness with the platform. The initial implementation specialists and trainers did a fairly good job of learning our company and needs, and tried to tailor the trainings accordingly. However, once we made the formal switch to the platform, meaning we no longer were using our legacy systems, we found that we had a lot of questions....and a lot of ideas and recommendations. The support team is extremely responsive and seemingly happy to receive our continual feedback. And if we encounter an issue that seems to be a system issue, they work diligently to fix it (we've actually had an engineer join a call with us to learn of the issue - and subsequently fix it)

In my opinion, the best place to go to answer your NetSuite functionality questions is their Online Help. It is excellent. For true support questions, NetSuite offers a Knowledgebase to its customers. Also, for ERP, NetSuite has licensed accountants that provide support. With any support organization, you must be thorough in describing your issue though.

Implementation was fine but could have gone quicker.

NetSuite provided me a implementation guide who I did not think was very knowledgeable.

I recommend that you make sure the organization knows how they are going to use the software and come up with an implementation plan before importing all of the data.

We used Workfront prior to using Accelo, mainly for project management and retainer management. There is no comparison between the two as Accelo blows it away.

NetSuite ERP

Zuora - does one thing and not that well. The best thing about it is consolidated invoicing. It's a point solution that thinks it's a platform. It's difficult to navigate, the navigation doesn't make much sense, and any customization is really just a deceptive crutch. NetSuite is a stark contrast in those areas. Still, I would be remiss not to mention there are a number of minor nuances in Zuora we prefer over NetSuite's SuiteBilling module; some of them add up to noteworthy, but, in the scheme of things, NetSuite is a much better tool and SuiteBilling is maturing.Salesforce - it's a self-perpetuating marketing machine. It's not a bad product, but the praise and popularity are, in my opinion, grossly disproportionate to reality. It's like any other hot brand, and there are products as good or better. NetSuite doesn't beat it in a lot of areas but it is a contender in most, and better in a number of areas. Salesforce's reporting capabilities are weaker (I say clumsy) compared to NetSuite; neither are reporting tools, but NetSuite goes a long way. Perhaps it's because NetSuite is Oracle SQL based and Salesforce kinda made their own flavor. NetSuite chose a better path with their API being Javascript based, where Salesforce is an overly complicated path. Relating records (as mentioned earlier in my review) and then actually viewing them is a strange thing in Salesforce that I think NetSuite makes very easy.

We have been able to scale our business 25X without any major overhaul with Netsuite. Its dashboard setup makes onboarding new employees very easy and allows data to be shared across multiple offices. Its cloud setup does not put any pressure on IT to scale servers or other infrastructure. We have been able to become much more efficient in all aspects of the business.

  • Helps with tracking prospects through the sales/marketing funnel
  • Has led some employees to stop using the tool and going back to spreadsheets. When trying to attach targets to tags you need to do so individually and if you upload a large list you need to do this manually, one by one, and requires a lot of time. So people have gone back to spreadsheets where they could simply just cut and paste new people in.
