Accelo is a system that can do it all. It's extremely sophisticated. Depending on the sophistication of your organization, or specifically the abilities of the people you put in charge of the implementation, it can almost be too sophisticated. It all just depends on your situation. The more you use it, the more data you give it, the more you'll be able to see and do. It's incredibly powerful. But it's definitely not a tool that would be appropriate for smaller boutique type organizations that have only basic needs.

PVE1 is ideally suited for a mature enterprise. One with a need to map strategies to outcomes, one with top-down support and direction that will ensure its data integrity and value on a persistent basis. It is not suited for project execution or collaboration. It is best served as the system of record for project intake, resource management, and performance reporting.

Planview Enterprise One (formerly Planview Enterprise and Troux)

  • Planview Enterprise (PVE) provides end-to-end work management for the full spectrum of work types in one tool. Traditional project work can be fully implemented with detailed or summarized WBS, stage gates, workflow management and content management. Non-project work can be tracked in a variety of ways. There is even an option for "ticket" type work. PVE provides 4 types of resource assignments to attach people to work; each with flexible configuration options to meet the need of the organization.
  • Planview Enterprise provides robust Rating and Financial Planning capabilities, and they continue to grow in this area of the tool. Rates can be driven by attribute-based rate cards or by attaching the exact rate to the individual resource. Multiple override functions exist that allow work to be configured with the exact rates when the work is the exception to the rule. All effort data captured in the tool (both from manual entry and/or ported over from the work plans) is converted into financial data with just a few clicks. And, portfolio management of this data is easily delivered on screen.
  • The analytic options available in Planview Enterprise are broad and easily made available to the appropriate audience. They are graphic, but also drillable to the desired level of detail to facilitate analysis.

  • Cumbersome processes - feels like tasks take longer than they should.
  • We gave up on the Projects module, it was rather unintuitive. Switched to JIRA, which integrates with the Support module of Accelo.
  • Each email address requires a new contact. If one person uses multiple email addresses to contact you, that info will have to be spread across multiple contacts.

  • With power comes complexity. Users are sometimes not sure of which screen to use for certain activities. Planview has done a good job of improving the UI over the year but there are still some areas that could be simplified for the users.
  • The financial planning module does not offer enough granularity to track non-labor costs at a detailed level. Costs are grouped by unique attributes. If I want to track the purchase of 10 servers individually within a single project, I need to use a different tool.

We have been a Planview customer since 1999 and have seen it grow and mature as a tool. We have looked at other tools and have found that PV continues to meet our needs and is easy for our resources to use. They work to stay up on the project management industry and the direction it is going, keep on on current technology so that we can work more effectively, provide excellent customer support and have great pricing for what they offer. We can purchase only the modules we need versus buying a tool where we would only use a portion of the functionality.

We are long time Planview users and its availability is only limited to our internal SLAs for nightly backups. I have never experienced any unexpected or prolonged software downtime from Planview itself.

From the beginning the Accelo team has been very invested in ensuring our success and overall happiness with the platform. The initial implementation specialists and trainers did a fairly good job of learning our company and needs, and tried to tailor the trainings accordingly. However, once we made the formal switch to the platform, meaning we no longer were using our legacy systems, we found that we had a lot of questions....and a lot of ideas and recommendations. The support team is extremely responsive and seemingly happy to receive our continual feedback. And if we encounter an issue that seems to be a system issue, they work diligently to fix it (we've actually had an engineer join a call with us to learn of the issue - and subsequently fix it)

Any issue is addressed correctly within the right amount of time. Sometimes it takes a while to be aligned on the request and to have a solution, but it doesn't happen frequently. There is a ticketing system where I can track all my requests that could be improved a little bit.

Always have a pre-implementation meeting or conference call with Planview to ensure all are on the same page, disclosure of all and any customization (including reports) and plan for support after implementation of a specified amount of time with the assigned implementation resource. And document everything

We used Workfront prior to using Accelo, mainly for project management and retainer management. There is no comparison between the two as Accelo blows it away.

We made the tool selection back in 2002. Most competitors are now gone or purchased by someone else. At that time they were one of the few companies who had a somewhat mature and configurable budget module. We were also coming out of an Access environment, so we were comfortable with the "Excel spreadsheet" look of the tool.

Accelo

  • Helps with tracking prospects through the sales/marketing funnel
  • Has led some employees to stop using the tool and going back to spreadsheets. When trying to attach targets to tags you need to do so individually and if you upload a large list you need to do this manually, one by one, and requires a lot of time. So people have gone back to spreadsheets where they could simply just cut and paste new people in.
