Namely offers a cloud-based HR platform for integrated core and specialized HR services, including time and employee performance management and onboarding processes.
Payroll Relief can be customized to work for just about any business. Electronic tax payment and e-filing services are not available in all states so the system may be less appropriate in jurisdictions where there is a lack of automation on the back-end. This lack of automation can be overcome by a payroll processing provider that has good internal processes and an understanding of how to handle their clients' filings/payments directly with these unsupported states
I had never heard of Namely prior to coming to this company. But was quite surprised at how user-friendly it is. Customer service is top-notch. I rarely have to wait for answers to inquiries or issues. If I call pertaining to how to do something, they always have detailed instructions on the process. You also have the ability to create cases for those items that are not time-sensitive. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Namely has helped with our COVID sick leave response. It has made a major difference both with the weekly payroll and the 941 tax filing
Keeping track of our multiple PTO plans. Thank goodness for Namely, I have shredded my old PTO spreadsheets.
Employees like the convenience of the cell phone app. As a payroll administrator, I like the Geo Tracking tool where I can see where some are when the clock is in or out.
The flexibility inside of the payroll system both as you are finalizing an employee profile and when you are processing payroll is a major advantage.
The reports I get out of Namely in Excel format work well for me.
The system lacks HR functionality. There is no automated employee onboarding option. PTO can be tracked but there is no way for employees to request time off from their employee portal.
Payroll processors do not get a dashboard showing a list of payrolls that are scheduled to be processed each day like some other systems do.
Namely Time TCP is a little quirky and does not synchronize bi-directionally with the HRIS.
Payroll Reports user-level customization needs a little more attention so that users that know what they need can access data from different sections without having to pay for a custom report.
Administrators and employees love Namely. It is very easy to use and streamlined. Employees stay engaged with news feed updates and enjoy all the self service options. The time cards are very easy to access and clocking in and out for non-exempt employees is a breeze. Namely is part of our family.
Namely is a user-friendly system that is continuing to improve its integration across platforms with HRIS, Benefits, Payroll, and Time. For us, a complex user with multiple clients and hundreds of hourly employees, it has been a good solution (though not without its drawbacks) and we have greatly appreciated Namely's willingness to listen to our concerns and requests for changes in the product. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Namely for any company far more simple than ours—especially small entities with most, if not all, salaried employees.
Unfortunately, in more recent years we've had a lot of difficulty with Namely as they've undergone a lot of internal changes. It took 4 returned emails saying the person no longer worked at Namely to find someone to help me (I finally called payroll) and it took a while to get connected with a direct source of help. Namely now has set up their "pod" feature of communication which works well for the most part, but is different. I felt spoiled when we first started with Namely, but now it feels very much like working with most large companies' help centers. There is a system to go through and you do have the option to click "urgent". In general the help is efficient, but it still takes a few days and it's hard to speak with someone directly. It is all done via online communications and is difficult to actually speak to someone on the phone. This works well for most cases, but I do feel frustrated more often than I'd like to with this type of communication. (2019/2020)
There were so many specialists in the implementation process; it would have been nice to have fewer people who had a more holistic understanding of the platform. Also, the onboarding meetings covered so much technical information that there was relatively little time for questions (though questions were invited). Eventually, everything worked out.
Payroll relief is more customizable and easier to use than some other systems we have reviewed. The fee structure is better suited for our client base as well.
The reason I continued to choose Namely at multiple employers is due to the continuity of employee experience. And the features have continued to grow since I initially onboarded in 2014. Also, through the years, I have had terrific benefits teams. The customer service has been the worst part of the experience outside of the benefits team.
It gets the job done, but I can't say that I love it.
I can't really compare the ROI to another solution. It is certainly good enough to roll up most basic HR functions, and in that respect is totally worth it.
