Accounting by Wave

Wave seems like an excellent choice for managing bookkeeping and invoices for a small business like my own. I imagine as a business outgrows Wave, you will need to hire a bookkeeper and other financial planners anyway. For me, this would be quite a ways down the road, but for basic tasks, Wave has sped up my financial workflow significantly. I'm so impressed by what Wave accomplishes. It's everything I need in a financial software. Very impressed.

Oracle Financials Cloud

If your business has plans that include aggressive growth
and aspires to be a best-in-class organization, your IT
systems and applications need to be up to the task.
Homegrown solutions created for a smaller business or
outdated commercial software can hamper your plans for
growth. If your IT infrastructure and maintenance costs
are affecting your ability to grow, then a cloud-based ERP
suite is well worth exploring.

Pros

  • The invoicing is easily personalized and works well with both online delivery and with downloaded .pdf files for those who prefer to have direct invoicing from our firm.
  • The billing system makes it easy to track payments to contractors by project, however, it would be great to have a full 1099 solution. The payroll system worked well for us for several years, however, there were some bumps and learning curves. I am not using it at this time.
  • We have a few clients who use the direct payment options and while that costs us a few percentage points (and on the size of our contracts it seems to be a hefty slice), it's still worth it for the piece of mind to get the funds in rapidly. The rates are fairly competitive compared to what we usually.
  • It's useful to be able to assign access to team members or collaborators.
Geri Lynn Peak profile photo
  • It’s all in one solution for all major needs of business.
  • You can integrate all Oracle systems with each other, which gives you a perfect result, because the entire system is developed within a group.
  • Oracles EBS provides you integration with advanced technologies including Web Server, Java and Apache.
  • As compared to other ERP’s deployments, EBS implements at a lower cost.
  • It offers you customized reporting features with which you can create a dashboard as per business needs.

Cons

  • The reporting features could be more robust as the number of reports are limited and not a flexible as I would like to see them.
  • I have run into issues when trying to export general ledger items. There are inconsistencies with the date formats and as a result the information does not export easily.
Randy O'Malley profile photo
  • The functions EBS offers are not user friendly. Therefore, you might need a training in order to understand EBS features.
  • It only works on best practices of businesses. It's not possible to create your own process flow.
  • EBS provides you all the processes which have been in practicing in businesses globally.
  • The cost of system is higher. Go with EBS only if you are a Medium level or above enterprise.
  • Sometime it works slow, when you export the heavy files.

I am a professional bookkeeper and I have no problems using Wave and all of it's features. I can see that certain individuals who have no accounting knowledge might struggle with a few different features and entries, but that is why Wave has an emphasis in connecting users to Wave Pro's who will walk them through things

Wave does tend to slow down when filtering your transactions screen especially by date. This is more of an issue when trying to trouble shoot certain transactions or clean-up a set of books.

Alternatives Considered

Wave accounting does not have as many features as Quickbooks or Sage 50 but it holds it's own with the market it serves. I use Wave primarily for the payroll functionality and i have recommended that clients who use Sage 50 or Quickbooks use Wave for it's payroll. The importing of the bank transactions is also a great feature but the other competitors have caught up to Wave on this feature. Overall it is a great tool, but only for the right type of client.
