If you have a home exterior company this is the best software!! Especially roof, gutters & siding. If you run a different company like you only handle decks, landscaping or maybe drywall, etc. This would not be the software for you

Autodesk Bim 360

Autodesk Bim 360 is well suited to the majority of construction projects in my opinion. On the construction side I could see how the straightforward nature of the platform would be well liked. The new update with the widgets is a great touch and allows for ease of site visits by showcasing good to know info like project location on a map and the local weather. You can also customize the "widgets" as you see fit to add more information if necessary to the home screen. From my experience as a LEED consultant, Bim 360 does not differ much from other platforms used for submittal review like Procore. It is easy enough to search for what you want but searches do take a while and you need to move the cursor over every time you search and do not find what you're looking for, which seems very unnecessary. Overall it is fine for reviewing documentation but isn't anything extraordinary.

Pros

AccuLynx

  • AccuLynx has an unending back end database that can be customized for every item that you put into an estimate. We can make proposals extremely detailed and perform tasks was in the estimate to limit information or expand all information.
  • AccuLynx transfers all the estimated material to the order then within the order process you can alter, add, or delete any item with a few clicks.

Autodesk Bim 360

  • Live updates between design teams. This keeps the team up to date for quicker design and frees up personnel from having to do file transfers.
  • The cloud-based platform gives your company a little bit of a break on computer requirements.
  • Allows multiple offices and/or cloud-based consultants to collaborate on a design as if they are one office or one company.

Cons

AccuLynx

  • Entering new leads - it would be nice if you could tab through the entire form, so you don't have to waste time using the mouse. Makes data entry so much faster.
  • More production reports.
  • Place to track material brands and colors of the different trades you complete, so you can run a report later and find all the jobs you installed Black shingles, etc.
  • More options to adjust user permissions.

Autodesk Bim 360

  • Bim360 is extremely unintuitive and frequently confusing to end users.
  • There are multiple avenues of sharing and collaboration for models and information. The advantages/disadvantages of each and how to perform even the most basic of tasks requires extensive training and mentoring for even the most advanced of users.
  • There are many enormous limitations and constraints to BIM 360 that are not immediately obvious and even contrary to published marketing materials and even product naming.
  • Development cycles of the product are seemingly monthly, but incredibly minor. This makes the desperately-needed and glaringly obvious massive usability, capability, and performance improvements into deal-breakers and hair pulling events. Change cannot come fast enough.
  • There are no integrations into Microsoft's Azure AD SSO or other 3rd party SSOs available for SMBs. This makes the provided MFA a huge headache for all SMBs.
  • There are no integrations into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem for SharePoint/OneDrive or Outlook. This is desperately needed for most organizations using Bim360.

Until someone shows me something more efficient or has features that are more streamlined and time is saved by all then I am all ears and ready to listen to that presentation. I wouldn't care at this point if I had to abandon QB if the system had it's own integrated accounting system otherwise it has to be able to do all and more of the features of QB and the CRM side also has to have/do more than AccuLynx features.

They can always improve and we are very successful when calling support. I would suggest they keep their support technicians available later for the west coast contractors who need help at the end of the day. We've come to know many of the techs because we call to offer suggestions but there's a process for us to follow for that.

I have not had the opportunity to use the support for Bim360 - this is the reason for only giving it a "1 rating." The general contractor has always answered my related questions and/or concerns when using this program/software. I cannot give an honest opinion on the support function unless I use it. I would hope it would be very supportive such as Fieldwire, Procore, etc.

AccuLynx

JobNimbus you have to customize it yourself and it's very time consuming to get it up and running efficiently and smoothly. AccuLynx is very intuitive and easy to use. This helps so much especially in the construction side. Also, AccuLynx can estimate easily which JobNimbus does not do at all. Buildertrend is good but really more for General Contractors who are builders. Not exterior remodelers.

Integration with glue and field is the primary reason why Docs is better than PlanGrid. I would like for them to remove those silos however and have it under one platform. Unfortunately, it seems like Autodesk swallows up all the small companies so you are more likely to have more integrations when selecting the Autodesk platform. Also, the admin platform is much better than older Autodesk software

Return on Investment

AccuLynx

  • The software is expensive, but if everyone utilizes it to its capacity it's well worth it.
  • Less time is spent searching for information because it is all at your fingertips.
  • Increased productivity in the overall company, which means we can handle a higher work load = higher revenue.

Autodesk Bim 360

  • Positively we use for all safety items, so its potential to save money is really something cannot be quantified. It has helped document trends, big items leading trends and odd ball cases which overall helps perfecting process to eliminate those trends and save time.
  • Negative impact is we need to pay for another program to handle budget, submittals and bidding so we are paying for two systems and paying for all employees to learn each system and possible make errors since there are differences in the systems.
