Very slow and not intuitive; it would be my last choice for version control systems.The UI is a little confusing at times and seems a little outdated. It needs a lot of improvement. It is suited for small projects and fewer number of projects. But if there are huge projects and many projects to be maintained in a portfolio, its a little hard to manage.

Pros

AccuRev

  • One place for most recent code with history, avoid any conflict/confusion among other team/members.
  • Stream/Workflow approach to control approval process betwen all the teams, which I couldn't find in other version control tools I worked.
  • Bundle our code in a small group (called, Issues in Accurev) to differentiate between different projects.

  • A large library of impressive FOSS programs with long legacies.
  • Excellent discussion/forum threads for the various repositories/projects.
  • Integrated download metrics displayed next to content to help end-users see which release/files are most popular.
  • End-User centric approach, easier to distribute and download content from.
  • Reviews for the project/content on the project page. Brilliant!

Cons

AccuRev

  • Ability to zoom in/out for stream-view. We currently have many streams/substreams and unable to view the entire workflow. Zooming in/out would benefit.
  • Being a designer, I use Adobe Flash and SWF files. When updating the SWF files, Accurev does not see these files as being changed and you will be unable to promote. In order to push changes, you must totally rename the SWF file.

  • I don’t really have many cons to speak of. There were some features lacking early on, like searching by integration or service region, but those have been taken care of now.
  • I would like to be able to save my searches and comparisons, so that I could come back and reference them later, but it’s not a huge deal.
  • There are a couple of features I don't understand.

I had a query about its service, for this I contacted them using email. They gave me instant support and provided me a very satisfactory answer to what I needed. The support staff is very friendly and available for support every time. Easy to create tickets, no need to log in.

Alternatives Considered

AccuRev

In my view, accurev ranks very low compared to other tools I have used. Microsoft TFS is the best in the industry as of today as it's a complete ALM solution. It does code version, bug tracking, user story documentation, and has easy integration with other external tools supporting many languages. So I would definitely recommend TFS to anyone.

SourceForge

Those competitors are nice, but I prefer SourceForge because its a little more straight forward. Those alternatives are just a little too complicated for me and they tend to have too many options, making it hard for me to decide which software is best. I also like that SourceForge has open-source options that the others do not, in case I need a free option.

  • SourceForge has has a positive impact on our ROI by helping streamline several processes. We used to have to do multiple applications and contracts by hand, with SourceForge we were able to find the right software to maximize efficiency and and reduce overhead.
