Very slow and not intuitive; it would be my last choice for version control systems. The UI is a little confusing at times and seems a little outdated. It needs a lot of improvement. It is suited for small projects and fewer number of projects. But if there are huge projects and many projects to be maintained in a portfolio, its a little hard to manage.

TeamCity

TeamCity is well suited for an organization using continuous integration, meaning you release code to production often, and an agile project management system. There are free versions available for small teams and enterprise versions available for large teams with many different builds.TeamCity is probably overkill for basic e-commerce or blog website builds that do not require much development after the initial launch

Pros

AccuRev

  • One place for most recent code with history, avoid any conflict/confusion among other team/members.
  • Stream/Workflow approach to control approval process betwen all the teams, which I couldn't find in other version control tools I worked.
  • Bundle our code in a small group (called, Issues in Accurev) to differentiate between different projects.

TeamCity

  • A very friendly UI with good drill-down and "Pro" capabilities compared to all other CI systems
  • A good reporting system that allows all our different types of automation tests to produce output for
  • Fantastically simple to setup and configure

Cons

AccuRev

  • The tool allows duplicate file name, if both are present in different directories. This creates confusion if multiple people are working on the same file. It should at least produce a warning.

  • Pipeline Visualization: TeamCity's weakest area

I give it this rating because I found an alternate application that is much more cost effective and quicker

TeamCity runs really well, even when sharing a small instance with other applications. The user interface adequately conveys important information without being overly bloated, and it is snappy. There isn't any significant overhead to build agents or unit test runners that we have measured.

Alternatives Considered

Git is one obvious alternative. However, Git is leveraging the command line and has minimal interface. Developer must be acclimated with command line in order to use Git.

TeamCity

I would also like to compare TeamCity against Snap-Ci as well as Concourse. We chose TeamCity over all of these tools because of its ability to be set up easily against a restricting corporate firewall. We needed to integrate unit tests, integration tests, pushes to production, and Docker containers into our CI, but were not able to with the other tools. We found other teams in other departments were having great success with TeamCity so we decided to give it a try and had the same great success. Good documentation is key, and you will definitely find that with TeamCity. There are several extensions or tools available to further modify TeamCity to your needs, but it is an excellent tool out of the box.

Return on Investment

  • Stable and safe promotions which leads to increased employee efficiency

TeamCity

  • It has drastically improved the turnaround time for building and deploying projects to Production
  • The build process can be augmented by adding build servers quickly
  • In my opinion the licensing cost is not expensive at least for small to medium enterprises, although I haven't looked in detail into how it changes when you move up.
