Acquia

If your organization requires you to implement a multi-site architecture, Acquia is one of the few cloud hosting options that makes this easy for Drupal websites. You can easily create a new database through their web UI, update your site's files, and add domains to each environment. This process is simplified even further through the use of another product, Acquia Cloud Site Factory.

Progress Sitefinity

Ideal for companies who are a Microsoft shop, and are small to medium sized businesses. But if you want all kinds of cool design possibilities and you have your own web designer, you may be better off with an open source product like Joomla.

  • Varnish cache available to all levels of service
  • Easy to manage team roles and users
  • Cloud API for additional deployment hooks and processes

  • If Sitefinity is correctly implemented, the ease of use for multiple users is great. We have had multiple companies helping us with the design of the site over the years and when we used a Sitefinity partner, the set up was great. I can trust multiple people to be able to add things to the website without breaking any code.
  • Localization was a huge factor in our continued use of Sitefinity. We like being able to click a button to send text to a translator.
  • The platform interface. The UX design of the CMS is great. We can easily know where to go and how to do things.

Cons

  • The Acquia Cloud's increasing functionality means increased complexity.

  • Sitefinity has been very well designed for our need (though our needs are small)

As a Drupal Web Developer, I have not encountered or been exposed to any other hosting solution that could surpass the benefits of having a site hosted on Acquia Cloud. Although, for any side-project or low-cost freelance gigs, I cannot expect that I'll always have the option of recommending Acquia Cloud, and that's okay. While I am at work and trying to help our team gain more exposure to my companies' extensive list of clients, when we have the fortune of adding another Drupal-based client to our roster, getting those clients on Acquia Cloud makes every other aspect of building or modifying their school website that much easier

Have looked into WordPress and Drupal but Sitefinity worked better for our application because of its visual studio integration and it seemed to be a much more robust product. Have used Telerik for years and Sitefinity fit in nicely

Return on Investment

  • Completely negated any dev time troubleshooting the platform, freeing us up to develop the website.
Andy Thornton profile photo
  • Sitefinity has reduced the amount of time it takes to edit and publish content, which has enabled us to get information out more quickly.
  • Sitefinity allowed us to establish a consistent and modern brand identity and apply it across multiple websites.
