Acquisio is ideal for marketing agencies, especially those that focus on serving a specific market. If your Agency has access to client data, depending on the data, Acquisio's software could be a powerful way to deliver that data in the form of online ads. Acquisio might be too powerful for a small business looking to manage campaigns in-house.

If cost is no object, Criteo certainly offers a top-notch customer service experience, and little-to-no time investment to manage the platform. For a company without a dedicated ads team, Criteo could be a good option since the platform does most of the legwork for you. Also, cost may depend on industry, so other customers may find a different cost situation than we found.

Pros

  • The Workbench does a good job of allowing you to monitor and make changes to your accounts, usually more quickly than AdWords.
  • The Performance tab of BBM allows you to quickly monitor the budget pacing for all your accounts.

  • Great interface - easy to understand and train others to use. While some might consider the dashboard too simplistic, I found that the simplicity of the dashboard made it an easy, 5-minute endeavor to go in and tweak bids whenever needed.
  • Good customer service - particularly the set-up team worked very closely with us and was always very responsive. When we were moved over to their existing accounts team, the customer service remained top-notch, and they were quick to proactively point out things we could do to improve our results.
  • Relatively wide display network - our Criteo ads show on a variety of websites; we found that the breadth of the network was nearly as extensive as Google's display network.

Cons

  • Reporting: Even though this platform is great, there are still some areas for improvement with the UI and some more micro-functionality that most specialist will deem important in the reporting process.
  • Editor: This tool, integrated into the overall platform could be a huge selling feature if there was the ability to make edits offline like other bid management software or if the UI was a little faster and more intuitive to account changes.
  • KPI's: Even though this is a huge plus, there are some micro-management issues in regards to tracking spend throughout the month or other KPI's if a campaign didn't start on the first of the month.

  • I never felt Criteo account management staff was really partnering with me to make my experience as efficient as possible. I never felt that they really had the expertise to help me. Their platform was so easy and robust that I don't so much need help with that as real analysis.
  • The platform didn't really let me analyze placement and remove obvious losing placements.

I think the platform, with the latest release updates has a lot of great potential. The main decision, currently, is price and how that gets passed on to our clients. There has to be a conscious decision made on platform cost vs client spend and overall budget vs revenue.

Within the interface there is an instant chat support feature that you can use to get help right away without having to pick up the phone or look for an email address. We have have an account manager who responds to emails quickly and is always helpful. Anytime issues require further tech support we are kept up to date on the progress of the issue and they are usually resolved the same day.

Criteo is easier to get up and running, and provides a better user experience on their dashboard, but the product comes at a premium. Compared to other, similar retargeting tools, Criteo was more expensive. We used Criteo for over a year, but ultimately paused our campaigns to work on a less expensive platform with more control over our ads and network.

  • Has allowed me to manage more social ads (Facebook, Twitter)
  • Has improved CPA and CPC performance for almost all of my accounts year over year

  • Criteo netted out to a sensible ROI gain.
  • Criteo's service was shown to have very little attribution that could also be credited to other marketing channels.
  • Criteo actually produced real conversions in addition to view-through conversions. That is gold.
