Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is a BaaS (Backup as a Service) solution used to back up and restore Microsoft 365 data, including Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Teams data.
Veeam is well known and they have other products that we already use in our organisation therefore we already know what to expect and what it's capabilities.
The endpoint protection is fantastic. Being able to recover a single file on the fly has saved many customers hours of frustration. Long term recovery of O365 data has worked well. I bit more difficult but not Acronis Advanced Backup issue, it has been MS issues. Nothing beats on premise backup / recovery speed but, when it is not available, Acronis Advanced Backup gets the job done for bare metal recovery.
From my experience the solution scales well for a single tenant but for companies with multiple tenants management could quickly become complicated, especially if multiple I.T. support people all need access to handle restores. But if you're in a single tenant environment even with alot of accounts and mailboxes I think this solution could work well for you.
Quick Virtualization. Acronis can virtualize most systems and get you back up in 15-30 minutes.
Encryption of Backups. You own the encryption key, and Acronis doesn't - so not even Acronis employees can get into your cloud data. Encryption meets all HIPAA requirements for data protection.
Easy to resell. You can create accounts for individuals outside of the company to allow them access to their backup console. It's very easy to set up, and clients are happy with how easy it is to use.
My CFO seemed to have lost a whole year of important emails. I simply restored them to his mailbox in a matter of minutes.
An employee left the company but an issue came up with a quote this person sent out. I could search his mailbox and got the quote as well as all communications from that customer.
It is nice to be able to search emails in various mailboxes without disturbing the user.
It is also nice to go back in time. Say they deleted those emails last month I can go back years if needed.
They do not sell their product directly, so a reseller is needed - or third party website to process payments for them in order to download the product suite.
They have done away with stand-alone software purchases, and have moved to a yearly subscription-based model. It's affordable, but you never truly "own" the software now.
Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 isn't 'multi geo' aware - this means we have to manually select resources to back up depending on their geo-location.
Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 doesn't backup Private Channels users create in a Team - there are workarounds for this but it would be nice if this just worked.
The cost savings we realized from moving to this software has us hooked - it does everything we need it to do on a very high level (virtualization, for example) and is very low cost for us.
Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 just works so well and is so easy to use. I researched multiple options for Office 365 backup and none seemed to be as easy to setup and use as Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and the pricing was very comfortable to us. I can't imagine any reason why we would change away from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.
Simply put: - easy to use - set it and forget it, minimal management - fairly intuitive GUI, but I still think it could use a little fine tuning - logging is concise and easy to understand - alternative geolocations maintained in separate sites to keep data segregated per requirements
We have a lot of data, and pulling backups out of the store sometimes takes a bit of time - but this is within acceptable tolerances. I don't expect restores to be instantaneous, and I can't quantify if the speed is software or data repository.
We seldom make use of Acronis support, but when we have they have been brilliant. All our engineers are Acronis certified, if they not able to resolve an issue, we touch base with our local Acronis supplier, Synapsys, who resolve issues 90% of the time.
We have contacted support for Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 using the Veeam Support portal. We open a case ticket on their support site and assign a priority based on the severity of our issue. The support team usually responds promptly and corresponds via emails or meetings. They sometimes ask us to collect the relevant logs and attach them to the case for further research. So, the whole process is streamlined.
We went with Acronis Backup Cloud because we're able to backup all platforms, not just PCs. And the price was good when it comes to all those options. It's a hard sell to clients, but when explained properly, the understand the cost of a good solution. It's like having good car insurance.
Compared to AvePoint and Metallic, recovery granularity at Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is granular and managing the solution is easier. We chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 due to its vast number of options and high stability. This is done with such concern; competitors offer other integration capabilities and verification of backups that the platform surpasses.
