Acronis Backup Cloud

Acronis Backup Cloud is suited for backing up Windows Servers. Downtime is greatly decreased by using their virtualization options. You will need a Hyper-V enabled computer to virtualize, though, but this can be one of your general-use workstations. A Windows 10 Pro machine with 16 GB of RAM would do it for you.Or, if you have Macs that need to be backed up, you can do that as well. You can grab either full volume images, or files/folders.I can't really think of a scenario that you would not want Acronis Backup Cloud, except pre-Server 2012 OS's, since virtualization isn't supported on those older systems.

Citrix ShareFile

Well suited for people that need to transfer large files between people or businesses. We were using FTP & password (AES256) encrypted Zip files to transfer data, which is fine for an every now and then function but was becoming a hindrance to productivity. The communication between sender and recipient was slowing down the process of delivering and receiving the content due to providing the decryption password etc...With ShareFile, you simply set up the recipient as a client and they get a welcome email to create the account for seamless transfers.I can't think of any reason where it wouldn't be appropriate to use ShareFile other than it may be cost prohibitive for small businesses. My company found it very affordable when compared to other larger products in the industry. One of the great aspects of ShareFile is that you can add unlimited Clients as you only have to pay for per Employee use.

Pros

  • Quick Virtualization. Acronis can virtualize most systems and get you back up in 15-30 minutes.
  • Encryption of Backups. You own the encryption key, and Acronis doesn't - so not even Acronis employees can get into your cloud data. Encryption meets all HIPAA requirements for data protection.
  • Easy to resell. You can create accounts for individuals outside of the company to allow them access to their backup console. It's very easy to set up, and clients are happy with how easy it is to use.

  • Automatic Sync of local files to the cloud.
  • RightSignature integration is invaluable.
  • Price to value ratio is very high.

Cons

  • The website is pretty slow and will kick you off sometimes. I know they are working on this. For now, this is the biggest problem we have with Acronis.
  • Their support team isn't great. It can take a while to get an issue resolved, although issues do not happen frequently.

  • There's a bit of a learning curve getting Sharefile templates and user profiles set up, but once you're set up it is very user-friendly.
  • We haven't been clear on what "ShareConnect" is and so we haven't been using it.
  • The desktop app for Sharefile has less functionality than the browser version, and it caused some confusion initially. Again, we just don't use the desktop app.

The cost savings we realized from moving to this software has us hooked - it does everything we need it to do on a very high level (virtualization, for example) and is very low cost for us.

The cost is fair and the program does what it has promised to do. Customer service is attentive. I'm not aware of any better-sounding file sharing systems out there that would tempt us to discontinue ShareFile.

I give it a 10 for an overall rating for several reasons.1. Technical Support is one of the best around. I get immediate help and resolution to any issue I have faced.2. The product is simple to use and provides businesses with amazing features to streamline the sharing of large files.3. The product is easy to deploy and manage. As an IT Manager, it is important to have control over your data.

Alternatives Considered

Acronis Backup Cloud has more features than eFolder, and is less than 1/3rd of the cost. In terms of restores, it's faster than eFolder if you use the local component. The restoration component is much better than Carbonite's, which has a tendency to drop connection midway through a file download. Acronis lets you restore to original locations, to a new location on the same device, or just as a download through your browser. Acronis Backup Cloud beats everything else we've tried, and it's unbelievable how affordable it is.

ShareFile makes it easy to access files remotely and to add files via phone or tablet. Eventually it will replace our internal server, where we have trouble keeping different versions of files straight. It will also replace many of our paper files, saving space and time. As our agency has expanded to inlucde offices in other counties and staff members who frequently work from home or in the field, ShareFile has helped us with internal communication and organization. Our internal server can only be accessed via a remote-in system which is far less reliable.

Return on Investment

  • ROI has been huge. The cost is incredibly cheap, and we saved $1500/month by switching.
  • With a heavy impact on profits, we're able to bundle this backup plan into our basic server management plans with no additional cost, which raises the value of our offerings significantly.

  • Just to be able to email large attachments, it costs way too much for just this function
  • Saves bogging down email servers with large files - saving server/mailbox storage
