Acronis Backup Cloud

Great solution for small to medium size businesses. The cost per server instance can prohibit large growth or expansion as companies grow. This solution is great for a business that wants to back up a small number of devices including potential offsite storage via Acronis Cloud option. Would recommend but need to investigate all options in regards to number of endpoints.

Egnyte

In a world where Dropbox is king, Egnyte is the hidden gem that I honestly feel works better and has more functionality built in, for a similar (if not cheaper) price point. Any business office that has a traditional server holding eons of files could benefit from Egnyte and their cloud operations, eliminating the need for the hardware. It's great for collaboration between offices and colleagues, and the quick sync feature upon save means that everyone has the latest version of documents at any given time

Pros

  • Full image and bare-metal recovery backups for any physical or virtual server.

  • Ability to spin up servers on the fly from recovery media.
  • Options to backup on premise as well as offsite to Acronis cloud.

  • Sharing files safely and securely with people at different facilities. It allows for ease of communication without having to limit security potential to do so.
  • Fast updating - within seconds I can drop a file in to a shared Egnyte folder and it be readily available on someone else's computer in the office. This is great for conference calls, it allows all parties to quickly access and review the same material.
  • Salesforce integration - it has been phenomenal seeing how seamlessly Egnyte and Salesforce integrate. To allow these tow systems to ebb and flow so well together saves countless hours of work in our everyday.

Cons

  • No option for on premises hardware BDR. This means recovery restorations rely on self-supplied hardware performance.
  • License per machine can get costly if large number of computers or servers.

  • Managing sharing links and corresponding details is not intuitive.
  • No ability to collaborate and save documents.
  • No historical view of document viewing and download history.

The cost savings we realized from moving to this software has us hooked - it does everything we need it to do on a very high level (virtualization, for example) and is very low cost for us.

Egnyte is a great product. I really liked how easy it was to navigate and would recommend it to other companies looking for a great way to store and share documents.

Alternatives Considered

Acronis is a great solution and provides a flexible amount of ways to backup and restore data. For software, it competes directly with Carbonite, ShadowProtect, Veeam, and Veritas. Most of these solutions are agent based and require licenses for each. Acronis does a great job for small to medium businesses and matches the features of the other software solutions.

Egnyte is easier to use and doesn't have as many glitches. It's pretty seamless to edit something and it saves multiple copies of a draft. It's easier and cleaner to search, set up admin rights and you can set it up to store automatically. I had some major issues with Google Docs and just really liked Egnyte better

Return on Investment

  • Easy to configure and install as well as setup.
  • Restorations can be very quick if self provided hardware is powerful.
  • Can require switching products if company has large growth as more endpoints require large cost investment.

  • Egnyte makes it easy to save and open files from anywhere
  • It is super easy to use and maintain
  • It has so much storage - it never tells us we need to clean out
