Acronis Backup Cloud

Acronis Backup Cloud is suited for backing up Windows Servers. Downtime is greatly decreased by using their virtualization options. You will need a Hyper-V enabled computer to virtualize, though, but this can be one of your general-use workstations. A Windows 10 Pro machine with 16 GB of RAM would do it for you.Or, if you have Macs that need to be backed up, you can do that as well. You can grab either full volume images, or files/folders.I can't really think of a scenario that you would not want Acronis Backup Cloud, except pre-Server 2012 OS's, since virtualization isn't supported on those older systems.

OneNote

OneNote is extremely well suited if you have Notes that generally fall into less than, say, 10 categories. That makes it easy to set up 10 different notebooks, or 10 different sections within a single notebook for those topics. Any more than that, and the hierarchical model starts to break down, and that's where tag-based organization becomes stronger. However, if you have a small number of categories, I prefer the hierarchical way that OneNote organizes, making it generally pretty easy to find the content you were looking for.

Pros

  • The Acronis backup console is easy to use.
  • Acronis offers an online recovery console to access items quickly and easily.
  • The ability to backup and restore Office 365 mailboxes.
  • Creating backup plans and schedules is simple.

  • Organization
  • Collaborating with colleagues
  • Easy to search within your notebook
  • OneNote app is very useful when I'm not able to use my laptop

Cons

  • The fact Acronis is an OS client base backup, which leads to more backup failures. Although most issues can be corrected with restarting services.
  • Recovering backups from the cloud(internet) is a lot slower then acessing local backups.
  • The backup error reports are not detailed enough to help administrators fix issues.

  • I would love to have more visual organization options (borders around text boxes to distinguish notes from each other when they are all on one page).

The cost savings we realized from moving to this software has us hooked - it does everything we need it to do on a very high level (virtualization, for example) and is very low cost for us.

As this is not a compulsory tool in our organization, I would say all depends on the decision makers, however since this is a part of MS Office, I am sure we will have it for as long as we will possibly need it. However, I would not be so sure, if it was a separate product

Alternatives Considered

I believe Acronis has the easiest interface to control backups and restores. The backup solution that didn't work the best for us was Symantec Backup. The other backup solutions (Unitrends, Barracuda, and Veeam) have similar backup features as Acronis and are recommended. Uniterends backup is more advanced and can be complicated not for organizations without IT staff.

As stated earlier, Evernote is a little better at mobile and list making. Especially when doing things like needing to record different media types [written, photos, audio recording]. That being said, if Evernote shut its doors tomorrow, I'd just download all of that content and import into OneNote. If the inverse were true, life would stink for the type of work that I do and how much I depend on it.

  • One easy to use tool that is included in many Microsoft suite packages.
  • Standard across many organizations to share, send or use in any industry/company.
