I think Act-On would work equally well for small to large companies. If you are less confident or experienced in automation and funneling, Act-On genuinely invests in the expertise to guide and support you so you can be continually learning and developing your skills and application for the platform. You never feel you are in the deep end

Benchmark Email

For low volume non-profits, Benchmark Email provides a respectable free service. Ease of use is high and customization of the email is good. The discount for 501(c)(3) organizations and fully free use for non-profits that help children is commendable. Although the GUI editor is flexible and easy to learn, it does have some issues with certain detailed formatting concerns, like properly showing the newlines between paragraphs. Image/photo processing and presentation is similarly both easy to use, but frustrating due to some capability gaps and quirks, like specifying image sizes and display on hi-resolution devices.

Overall, Benchmark Email provides a good service that is easy to learn to expand your communication reach; however, the ROI and satisfaction may not be as high if paying fees comparable to other offerings.

Pros

  • It's been really easy to get started with Act-On! There are great step-by-step guides inside the platform on what you need to do in order to start using the system, and if any of the steps are unclear you can simply go to Act-On University to get a more detailed description.
  • So far I've been in contact with my CSM (customer success manager), technical support, the area manager and the creative team and everyone has provided competent and friendly service.
  • It's really simple to re-use assets such as forms, emails and landing pages. It saves our team a bunch of time since you almost never need to start over from scratch. To edit the assets is really simple through drag and drop functionality with great flexibility.

Cons

  • The available reports are quite static, so there is not much you can change. However I do know that this is a function that is more advanced if you go up to the Enterprise version.
  • The alerts to sales people could be developed further, at the moment they are mainly based on demographic's of the visitor but I would like to be able to connect them to lists as well.
  • The calendar provides a good overview of what has been done, but to fully optimize it I would like to be able to add planned activities. This would give the team a better possibility to plan and coordinate.

  • Scheduling emails can be a nightmare. I, for some reason, can never schedule an email at the correct time I want. They make the time zones confusing and it's in a 24 hour format which is annoying.
  • You can customize well in the editor but it can be an extremely painful experience if you make a mistake. There's no undo button after you save something.
  • Email automation is available but it's extremely basic.

Act-On had a lot of resources, and their staff was great at answering any questions I had to make sure we got started on the right foot. Looking back, I would have preferred some additional training sessions since we didn't have any previous experience with Marketing Automation and best practices.

Alternatives Considered

I'm sure our team went through the whole vetting process. I was not involved in that part so I am unable to really say how Act-On compares to other solutions in the market. I can say that my experience has been nothing less than excellent and that I think my team made the right decision

Of the free email marketing services I tried, Benchmark could only stack up against Zoho Campaigns and Moosend. as unfortunately, MailChimp has better signup form customization options, SendinBlue's free plan offers advanced automation and MailerLite offers advanced customization and the creation of landing page.I do believe that Benchmark email has a lot of potential, and if they fix the design issues and the allow signup forms to have their own URLs that can easily be shared, then they would stack up well against most free ESPs.

Return on Investment

  • Able to easily create emails for marketing with great designs and responsive design.
  • Lead scoring gives us a better picture of who are best leads are.
  • Able to easily create landing pages for our website in just minutes, instead of hours and hours manipulating HTML and CSS.
